looking to build my 1st box

i currently have 2 12" Mmats pro p3.0 subs, and a US Amps Md2d amp. current box is tuned at 35hz at about 4 cu. ft. I have a competition at school coming up in a few months and looking to build a box that will blow my enemies away. Some kid in my school has a 18" DC sub in a big box tuned at 30hz. He has a cheap handheld DB meter, and he metered .5 DB's louder than me. I was thinking of building a box around 45hz, but wanted to see what you guys think about it and if you have any ideas please help.

you can try and build a 5.0 cu.ft box and tune it around 45 hz.

the more cu.ft i have the louder it will get at 45 hz? meaning it will be louder with 5 cu.ft at 45hz rather than 4cu.ft at 45hz?
