Looking for what I used to have

I'm running my stereo (Alpine 7982 - soon to be replaced, but not sure with what just yet, Alpine v12 amp, forget the brand of the front speakers and they are not exactly accessible) in an old big boat of a convertible. 1962 oldsmobile dynamic 88.

In 1995 I put in a pair of MB Quart speakers that were outstanding. Through some numbskullery those speakers have since disappeared and been replaced with a budget buy to get me by. I'm looking to get back that crystal clear sound and beautiful separation. I don't run a sub and the enclosures are in the back seat, so I'd like a respectable amount of low end, but I'm no bass-head. I'll gladly give up some thumping to get the crystal clear treble and mids.

What's the speaker for me? I'm so out of the car stereo scene these days I don't even know where to start, and my goto shop closed down years ago.

oldschool guy i bought some stuff from a while back told me about those exact speakers lol he kept telling me he'll NEVER sell them, especially the tweeters. he literally could not stop talking about them it was funny

Speakers since that time have came a long way. Bad Thing is the prices have too. we know nothing about the drivers you can fit. Are you will to do some customization to get some amazing sound out of the car?

even for a decent budget you can design a 3 way that will have decent bass and sound very transparent.

just to give you an idea for a budget 3 way that will blow you away..

upgrade to the DRT 26 and you have yourself a KICK *** set for the money.

Regarding the drivers, I'm sticking with the front speakers I have, just because they're already "good enough" to me, and trying to get to that mount is more work than I'm interested in right now. The back cut outs are standard 6.5" right now, and I'd like to keep it that way, but I'd be willing to modify for the right setup.

Regarding the head unit, do you know if any of the alpines without the CD player have similar sound to the HD149BT? I have no need for the CD player, but that alpine does look rather nice.

I'm not sure not sure honestly. Having 24 bit days is pointless if your going to use mp3 anyways. I'd imagine that the topline sound good..
