I have a '99 Corolla and I'm looking to install my JL XR-650CSi comps. Installing the mids is no problem as the factory speaker locations in the front doors are a drop-in fit. However, I'm having trouble figuring out where to mount the tweeters. Since I prefer flush mounting tweeters, and since I fabricated sail panels for the tweeters in my last car and they looked nice, my first thought was to do this again in the Corolla. However, I'm being told that mounting the tweeters in the sail panels locates them too far away from the mids and this will cause sound quality issues. Most are suggesting to surface mount them either on the door near the mids, or high and to the rear on the kickpanels. The two problems with this is 1) surface mounted tweeters are absolutely hidious looking and 2) mounting them in this manner would make them highly suseptable to being constantly kicked, which would eventually result in breaking the mounts.
I was hoping Q Logic made some sort of a replacement kickpanel that you can mount tweeters in, but they don't make one for the Corolla. I don't know of any company that does. Since I know nothing about working with fiberglass, I wonder how expensive it would be to have an audio shop fabricate some kickpanels that I could flush mount some tweeters in. Or should I just mount them in the sail panels? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
