looking for some subs

Hey everyone,

So I'm looking for two good 10" subs and an amp for my '04 Honda Civic, right now I've narrowed it down to two; the JL TW1s or the Alpine SWS-10D4s. I'm definitely more focused on the sound quality of the subs over the loudness but I still want them to be able to hit rather hard. I'm making my own sealed enclosures for them and the way that I'm planning it, each sub will be in its own box, so if I understand correctly I would need a multi-channel amp correct? Space is a little bit of an issue so I'm trying to stay away from anything with a mounting depth of more than 6 inches. I really don't want to spend more than $600 but if it's worth it i could probably stretch my budget to $650. I'm not dead set on these two subs so any new ideas are definitely welcome! I know that was a lot of info but your help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Why sealed? And no, you can run a monoblock amp. I ran 2 12" SWS in separates sealed for a long time, then I went ported and I'll never look back. Btw, I don't listen to rap, just metal, punk, thrash. You can get some great 10's for under your budget, too.

I want to do a sealed enclosure because the space in my trunk is limited, also I'd rather have more crisp bass notes over loud, elongated notes. I listen to all sorts of music and what I've heard from my friends subs, I like sealed a lot more. What kinds of drivers should I look at for good SQ that are in my price range? I'm fairly new to the world of subwoofers and the only brands I really know of are Kenwood, Alpine, Pioneer, MTX, and JL.

I'm sure your friends ported boxes are prefabs. A proper ported box will sound just as good as sealed, have more impact and output. If you can't fit a pair of 10s ported than do single 12. Both will outdo 2 sealed. With your budget I would do a single W6 12 in a real box. If you can't build it there are plenty on here that can and ship it.

I say W6 because I doubt you want a 4000 watt system so this will get loud enough and have great SQ.

Another reason why I don't want/can't have a ported system is because I just don't have the space. I want to put the subs in the back corners of the trunk in my Civic and ported boxes just wouldn't fit. I've looked into the W6 but unfortunately they are way too much for me, I only have $600 for everything (including the amp). I'm trying to do no more that $400 for the two 10s so that would leave me with $200 for the amp

Two SSA Dcon 10s on a 500 watt mono. Look up ssa store on Google.

I have two of the newest Type-R 10's for sale:

We can work out a deal

Two of these in single 2ohm. DCON 10 Sound Solutions Audio 10" 400W DCON Series Subwoofer - SSA STORE
On this. Crescendo Audio Symphony S600.1 - 600 watts x 1 Mono Block Symphony Series Amplifier - SSA STORE

Go any cheaper and all you will get is garbage. This would be a pretty kick *** and reliable setup.
Awesome thanks! I'll definitely look into those. Now how is that amp compared to other amps? I've been looking at a lot of Kenwood and Alpine amps and I've heard a lot about them. Any thoughts on which is better?

This amp is Korean built. Same place all the big names use to be before they started getting them from China. It's a very good amp. You are not paying for a marketing department and dealer overhead. You are paying for the amp. You won't see Kenwood or Alpine in top cars you see stuff like this. You see Kenwood and alpine in those all show no go builds that don't know any better.

those are built better Pretty much geared towards competition level performance even though its just entry level, they will outperform your general mainstream brands.

If you are going sealed though, i'd go with two 12s instead, you'll still have room but have a lot more output.

I'd recommend these over alpine type Rs anyday, these hit waaay harder and sound a lot better in my straight up comparison test and these take a lot more power and punishment too, built a lot better last very long http://www.carstereogiant.com/product-p/threatcon-2-12-d4.htm and alpine type Rs are much better subs then your original idea.

and this is a suitable amp for a sealed configuration http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_63975_Pioneer-GM-D9601.html

You'll have money left over for an amp kit https://execution-audio.com/product/execution-audio-0-gauge-amplifier-wiring-kit/ you only need 4 gauge for the pioneer amp, but I'd go with a bigger gauge and trim it down to fit just in case you want an amp in the future that requires 0 gauge.

This is for electrical upgrades since you are going past 1000 watts, you'll want to keep your system happy with higher voltages. google up "the big 3" upgrade, you will need it regardless, it'll help your whole vehicle charging system.
