looking for radar dector

someone ban this stupid fagg0t...

back to the topic have any of you tested these radars out?
I bought the cordless Escort Solo S2 when I worked @ Best Buy. Very good detector with great sensitivity. The 8500 X50 I pointed out is supposed to be even better than my S2. It will be my next detector. I'll miss the cordless-ness but I'm willing to compromise for the better sensitivity/range. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

When I bought my Bel RX65 they were offering a deal if you bought factory-direct and sent them an old detector there was an $80 rebate (regardless of age, brand, or condition - I sent 'em a broken Uniden that had been in a junk drawer in the shop for two years).

So after buying the 3 yr extended warranty (which includes free software upgrades if they become available) and paid to ship back my old detector I spend a few cents shy of $300. It's expensive for a radar detector but for one as good as the Esc. 8500 X50 or the Bel RX65 factory-warrantied for 3 years it's worth every penny, IMO.

So if you're willing to spend that three hundred bucks (and can participate in the rebate program to make it that price) Bel's still got the rebate going on, though I can't say for how long.

wouldnt you be able to get a cheaper radar and still get the job done...rather than paying $300(which is ALOT for a radar i think)...

When I went shopping for a new detector (my rather aged Bel 855 Sti lost it's audio circuit...detector still works but no audible alerts worked) I wanted one that I knew would be a great detector. None of them are foolproof, keep in mind. I looked at the Escorts and the Beltronics offerings, reading reviews, etc, etc, etc.

Depending on what publication you read the top honors in the $300~$350 range went equally to the Escort 8500 X50 and the Bel Pro RX65. The rebate program got me the Bel factory-direct with the extended warranty considerably cheaper than I could have bought an 8500 X50 with only a 1 yr warranty so I went that way.

Lesser detectors more often than not prove to be simply that - lesser detectors.

I went to visit a friend not terribly long ago and while I was there another buddy showed up. The late arrival was telling us all about this Cobra detector he had just bought that was Cobra's top-of-the-line unit and how much he liked it thus far. The late arrival and I left the first friend's house at roughly the same time so we ended up traveling the same stretch of freeway for awhile. Posted speed limit was 70, we were both driving about 85mph side-by-side, talking to each other on the phone as he asked me why in the heck I payed $300 for my Bel when his supposedly badass Cobra was around $150 or so.

My Bel went off with a signal strength of 3 / 9 and I immediately backed off the gas. The friend's Cobra never made a peep and he kept on up the hwy. @ 85 or so.

3/4 of a mile later on the backside of a hill I passed him, his Cobra, and the Louisiana State Trooper that was pulling him over to write him a ticket for 83 in a 70 zone.

He's not asked me why I paid $300 for a radar detector since.

Yes, there are cheaper detectors out there than the Escort 8500 X50 and the Bel Pro RX65.

Those that buy them get what they pay for, I reckon.

thats coool.. that thing saved u hundred(s) of dollars. if i invest in one will i get to speed around the freeway a LOT more?? how often (on average) does it go off on you every twenty minutes? for instance, if u were to drive on the freeway for twenty mnutes what are the odds of it beeping and how many times?

hey i think im interested in getting a radar after reading this thread. will a GOOD radar always go off when there is a cop nearby or does the cop have to be doing something specifically?
