Looking for opinions on RX8

Nothing wrong with getting her a newer car. More reliable and safer than a POS older car. I'd look into the mazda 3 though.
A 1980s Cadillac is safer than any car I know of. The frame on that sucker is about as well constructed as modern trucks.

I suggest an 80s Cadillac or Mercedes.

Let me clear something up...
A rotary is NO more of a nightmare to work on than a piston engine as long as you are a rotary mechanic.

Having said that, you DONT want to learn to be a rotary mechanic on an RX8. If you really want to understand rotaries, get her a 1st or 2nd Generation RX7. If your not really into rotaries you should stay away from any RX...

thats what im doing for my comming of age kids maybe even a suburban...Big and safe!

Every time I see an rx8 with a front license plate, it reminds me of bugs bunny for some reason //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

rotary = mechanical nightmare. I do believe I have seen the hossage driving around town in one of these so you may want to ask him or his owner for some first hand experience.. All of my nightmare stores are on RX7's but same POS rotary..

Shut up retard.

Yes my taurus(es) were ****ing awesome, granted they needed a new ****** every 20k but thankfully I caught on after the third one and got the extended warranty so that last 4 were all covered //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
The bolded comment shows that you have absolutly zero credible knowledge on this subject... The automatic RX8's have a less powerful engine in them, and are considerably slower than the manuals. They have more torque at the lower end of the spectrum, and less top end and overall power. The intake runners and ports are different on the automatic engines, as is the gear ratios of both the transmission and third member.

My suggestion, definitly not the car for a new driver. They are not that fast, that is not the main concern here. They are quick, but definitly not a straight line racer. They are not good on gas, they take premium, they burn oil, and they have other quirks to them. If you start the motor, then turn it off without giving it the chance to warm up, you have a good risk of "flooding" the engine. It happens pretty frequently. The blindspots are another great point, they are fairly massive. You can see where the front wheels are, but not much else, and the B pillar is pretty thick which can block your blind spot, the mirrors are in a little close and dont give you a great view around the body pannels... Just keep it simple, get her a something safe, cheap, and good on gas.

All this being said though, I still love my RX8 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

do you even know anything about cars?somebody with your level of knowlage needs to stay away from rotory's....and probally car audio too.
Probably quiet a bit more than you do, but that's not the point.

For everyone else thanks for the opinions. Unfortunately while I was trying to research different places about the car my wife went ahead and bought the damn thing. Everyone was right about the blind spots and the automatic being slow as hell. I'm too damn big and old to get in and out of the thing too. I'm going to make her drive one of our other cars for a year or so before I turn her loose with it.

Sounds like a good choice...who is gonna drive it?

Unfortunately, TN has no "cooling off" period. Joo are stuck with it.

It's time to buy my daughter her first car. I'm looking at a 2005 Mazda RX8 with 70,000 miles on it. I'm need opinions from anyone that's owned one if you would recommend this car or not. There will be no aftermarket audio in it so that's not an issue. It has the rotary engine which I know nothing about. Any advice would be appreciated.
such a fucking deal killer for me

I'll drive it about once a week or so just so it doesn't just sit there. My wife is wanting to take it to Destin this summer but there's no way I could sit in it that long. I know I'm stuck with it, o well.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

I know what you mean, but to my wife and daughter it's a nice pretty "sports" car so they bought it.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

You should give it to me...I will come out and get it.
I can trade a car for it.
The wifey would cut off my balls while I slept if I did that.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Whats the diff. you drive a Camaro.
Dude, you drive a V6 stang, you don't have room to talk shit on camaros or any other cars about being slow except some ricer hondas.

Overall they're reliable and don't need much in maintenance. But when they do LSX parts aren't very expensive and there's A TON of parts out there.

edited: Nevermind, I'm better that that. Congratulations on your mechanic career.

Oh NO! I must have missed it in your first post that you were looking at an automatic RX8. The automatic is really the deal killer for any rotary person because you miss most of the fun that was designed into the rotary engine which is at the top end. Thats why the most pristine, low milage, 2nd gen RX7s are found with automatics, because they dont get driven. And when they are sold the automatics are almost always switched out for a manual so the new owner can actually enjoy the car.

Having said that...

the automatic is the best choice for your daughter.

I'll bet you can put a pretty nice stereo in there!
