Looking for new subs

Looking for new subs for a new build in my truck. Subs will be in a F-150, under seat box with limited space and I'll have about 800rms to play with. I'm currently looking at either a pair of Sundown E-10's in close to 2 cubes at 35hz or a pair of 10" SD-3's in roughly 1.75cubes sealed. The main objective is a versatile system that can play most music and have good sq but still get low. B-stocks are probably the route I'll go and budget is roughly $150 per sub. What would you guys recommend?

i dont think youre going to find anyone who will argue with your sub choice as sundown are pretty awesome especially the b stock for the price

2 E would be louder than 1 but in your case space is key those under seat boxes usually end up closer to 1.8cf., if u are building it that maybe different, if u doing that u maybe able to do a sa 12 if u can get 1.7cf ad if not do 10..

I'm leaning toward doing the 2 E-10 in the ported box but wonder if they'll have close to as good SQ as people say the sd-3's do? I would get more output at a cheaper price but possibly at the expense of SQ which I'd like to retain.

Alright guys, so I think I'm changing plans slightly and want your input. I'm now leaning toward going sealed (for sq purposes) and going two 10's so I can still feel the lows. I'm also going to step up in power. Rather than doing a 5 channel amp, I'm doing a dedicated sub amp so power will jump up to roughly 1200rms. I'm thinking the 2 Sundown EV3 10's would do nicely in 1.75cf after displacement and 1200 watts. I was looking at 2 10" SD3's but not sure if it's worth the additional cost ($166 for 2 e10's or $320 for 2 sd3's).

I'm not going to have sufficient airspace after sub and port displacement. That's why I'm just going sealed.
I'd get the two E-series. They perform well in sealed. Buddy of mine has a pair of e-12s in a sealed box and it plays really well.

Also just realized you're right around the corner from me. You're in sterling and I'm in gainesville.

Sq or not, I still say 1-sa Ported is where it's at. Tune it low and you will still have Sq, but you will also have bass that hits you in the chest from 20-50hz and can still handle the kicks with authority. The sa is a great sounding sub. The e series doesn't sound bad but there is a big difference.

I don't think a lot of people that say Sq really know what that means. You can have a system that sounds good and isn't anything Sq in that sense. Maybe sql is more what you are looking for, because if you are going for a true Sq system I don't think the e is even on the list. The sa has much better potential to sound good.

Sq people aren't looking for heavy paper cones with oversized motors typically.

lmao horrible idea with sealed especially in a truck. You'll just lose out on both sound quality and output, you dont realize how fast sealed boxes drop off with the lows in a truck, you'll just be missing a lot of bass notes which means NOT sound quality. Plus the E series ARE NOT MEANT for sealed, they werent built that way. so thats TWO horrible reasons not to go sealed, Vehicle acoustics and driver parameters.

In an SUV or a trunk with a higher resonant frequency and longer cabin, it would be almost workable but in a smaller cabin like a truck with a much higher resonant frequency, good luck getting lows.

Good luck even getting bass at all. I use my truck as a test bench to test subs from time to time, usually to try out a box I build or test functionality and in sealed boxes it's like I don't even have a sub at all. Underwhelming would be an understatement of every sealed set up I've tested in my truck.

My first sub was a type r sealed and it was very meh, I didn't know any better. Once I traded the sealed box for a Ported on with the same sub and same power I nearly shat myself!!! That was the moments that I fell in love. My whole truck was shaking, my chest was heavy and I'll never go back.

In a trunk it's different, in a truck Ported is all there is.

Well this is my first pickup and I'm coming from a Tahoe so I'm not aware of the major discrepancy with resonant frequency. I've heard as long as the box is down firing, the output should be decent. Maybe I've heard wrong.

Kam - I know you keep saying to go with an SA but I don't have the mounting depth under the seat to accommodate it. That's why I'm looking at sd3 or e.

I'd consider going to 2 8's. I've never had anything smaller than 10's but if it's anything remotely close to my TC Sounds 12" I'd definitely be satisfied. The only problem I'm having is trying to find someone to build me a box. Everyone on here is either busy or taking time away. I'm currently looking at Fox Acoustics...F-150 SUPERCREW 2-10" VENTED 2009-UP

some of those new 8's are nice man look at ssa fl8 idk what depth is though .55 cf box $199..

I'm in the same boat as you trying to figure out which subs will work best under the seat. The Fox Box looks ok, but it's tuned to 36hz with volume of 2.05 and that has to be before the port area. It looks like most 10's would be squeezed in there. I am considering FI SSD 10's and maybe the SA8's or F8L's. I can't seemed to get a good idea of mounting depth on the front facing boxes.
