Looking For Low End Extension

I currently have a Type ARRGH on 350W in about a 1.25 ft^3 sealed box, it's basically a pieced together substage that only costs me about $100 at the end of the day. I'm not looking to spend any more money on new equipment (audio stuff isn't a priority right now, too many other hobbies).

I'm looking to get some low end extension out of it, it's in a 2DR Blazer and it has pretty decent authority until 40Hz where it REALLY rolls off in a hurry. 35Hz notes are quieter, and any music down at 30Hz doesn't have any impact at all, basically just a background hum. (I'm using a frequency generator for my iPhone to check the frequency response and audacity to confirm the frequencies in certain songs)

What's the trick to getting some lower extension? A buddy of mine with the same sub, same sized sealed box, on 500W in a trunk gets a lot lower extension and it sounds much better, both being few with the same HU, so my only guess is that his trunk is helping with the low end extension (his 30Hz notes hit as hard as his 40Hz notes do, my 30Hz notes barely exist while my 40Hz notes are louder than his), my conclusion is that either his trunk is helping the low notes or the cabin of a 2DR Blazer makes is killing the low frequencies.

I've looked at going ported, but if there's a simple way to improve my low end extension without a new box I'm open to that. (like stuffing the box or something).

I know the equipment is nothing fancy, I'm just looking to make the most of what I have. I don't expect to kill the lows, just get the response down low to be semi flat rather than having severe rolloff.

Best way to beef up the low-end is to go with a low tuned ported box. Stuffing the box with polyfil can only do so much.

first off feed the type r more power, i was running 1200 to mine and it played great. also you WILL want to port the box if you wanna get more output while leaving all other variables the same. while stuffing the box will help i would recommend porting the type R. just my $ .02

Ok, that's what I was assuming was the answer. More power isn't an option, if I had the budget I'd have 2 12" IDMAX on 1000W ported but audio isn't my priority and I don't have the budget for that.

I guess I'll port it to about 2.25 ft^3 (before displacement) at about 32Hz to get some more out of it, sounds like a fun project for the near future. Should I even bother carpetting the box or just leave the wood bare? I'm assuming it doesn't really make a difference.

yea its all preference as far as whether to wrap the box or not, spray paint could be a easier solution if you do choose to cover it,
