looking for a new sub

im looking for o new sub for my truck and was looking for recomendations. i have a pioneer gm5200t amp that puts out 380rms at 4 ohms. what would be a good setup to run with it? i like all kinds of music so a good all around sub it what im looking for. just not sure what to get. ported, sealed or bandpass box, a single 12 or 2 10's or 2 12's. i would like to stay around $200 and i can build a sealed enclosure, just dont know much about ported or how they are tuned

I'd say look into ssa dcons. You could get 2 tens or twelves within your budget you would need more power for 2 of them tho

If you do a ported box make sure you tune low because that amp doesn't have a subsonic filter.

Huh? lol. so in other words i should stick with sealed? lol. how do you go about tuning an enclosure? is there special equipment or is it all done with math?

so i had a fosgate p2 in a sealed 1.25' qlogic enclosure. the sub started making a wierd sound on some of the higher notes and i was told that it was a bad voice coil from running it with the gain too high (the guy who i got the sub/amp from had the bass boost set at 6 but i put it to 0). i really did like the p2 but i (like just about any other man on the planet) like to know if there is a better bang for the buck. i was even thinking of another p2 but in a different box. i was considering 2 subs but i do like the smaller size of a single sub. if i went with a ported enclosure, assuming the same sub just for comparison purposes, would i notice any gain or loss? i know its supposed to sacrifice the tight bass for more boom but to what degree? would a ported box still sound decent with country or rock music? i listen to all music

A proper built ported box will always outperform a sealed box in terms of output (spl aka loudness) as well as sound quality. The box is the most important thing when designing a bass system.

The only Pre fab box I have heard sound good is the JL HO box for the W7s. But they have a bad habit about falling apart inside.. I dont think my statement helps you but you get the idea

No but there are people on this site who you can buy a design from and just assemble it yourself.

GO to PSP aeroports's website. Just use aerports. Its easy to do a ported box that way.
