looking for a new smartphone for verizon

I've got the Touch Pro. Yea...battery life sucks. I typically leave mine hooked up to my PC when I'm not at home. Doing that...I don't run into any issues.
I loaded SPB Mobile Shell on mine and ran through a few mods. I'll probably load a custom ROM sometime soon. With some tweaks here and there, it can be a really nice phone. Disabling the HTC dialer (and using the standard WinMo dialer) will free up 10MB of RAM. Keep the programs running to a minimum and it should be fast enough for most anyone. You can change the settings so that by pressing X, it closes the program rather than minimizing it. Helps quite a bit (or you can have set it to press and hold X to close).

By using SPB Mobile Shell, I almost never encounter the actual WinMo interface. So if that's what's holding you back, I wouldn't let it. Head over to http://www.howardforums.com for some decent info. XDA Developers is also somewhere to look.
The reason you are experiencing the bad battery life is because you are running SPB Mobile Shell. It's a great launcher, but it's slow and drains your battery with the quickness. A custom ROM flash will surely fix your problem.

**To the OP, the Touch Pro is an excellent phone, and with the Windows Mobile base, it's extremely powerful. TouchFlo3D interface is very intuitive, rivaling the boring iPhone for ease of use. The battery life isn't as bad as the reviewers say they are. You can get about a full day to a day and a half with heavy use. HTC makes great phones with a lot of versatility. If you like to customize, you can build an interface that works for you.

oh didnt notice the CDMA version from the HTC page. im not sure how verizon is anymore about putting unlocked CDMA phones on their network.... they use to be against it but maybe they've changed...
They are fine with it as long as the phone is flashed with one of their ROMs.

im leaning towards the touch pro, or the blackberry bold/8900 when/if they are released for verizon's network.

i gotta go fool with the touch pro though, im not gonna buy it until i know for a fact i like how it works, mainly if i can type on it good

if i get it, ill deff be hittin u up for help on flashing it and shit lol

i have the storm, text all day long and have no problems with it whatsoever....i got the landscape layout if i wanna type two handed or i can be just as fast with the surtype in portrait mode....

theres nothing i dont like it about it, may want to think it over again

and the dare is a toy compared to the storm which is a tool for business, etc

ive messed with the storm, and i flat out dont like it. period.

i like blackberrys out of any other phone, but i think they failed on the storm. blackberrys are known for their keyboards etc, then they come out of no where with an all TS phone, just to be like all the other companies. IMO touchscreen sucks. i could live without it.

when you go in store, Touch Flo is disabled on the TP. You'll have to go into the menus to enable it. be sure to turn off the HTC dialer. its unfortunate you cant configure it as you wouldnt want to in the store (with Advanced Config, etc). regardless though, just remember you'll be able to improve it significantly if you actually purchase it.

isn't the release date for the bold sometime around may?
