Looking for a good amp

Hello everyone, sorry about the title I wasn't exactly sure how to name the thread. This is my first post here and I'm looking for a little help and I figured I would ask some people around the internet. Quite frankly I trust people on forums then employees at best buy and such. They may know what they are talking about, but I have had some bad issues with a few in past situations.

Unfortunately I do have a budget, and am looking at around close to $500 for the amplifier and subwoofer. Please bare with me, because I am not exactly sure what I am looking for but I kinda got the gist of it, at least so I hope. I know this is a section only for amplifiers so I will stick with just that. Most of my buying will come from eBay, which will cut costs prices slightly.

I have done a little reviewing and it seems like Hifonics has pretty decent amps so I'm leaning towards them. But like I've said I have never wired subs/amps, nor know what I am looking for. I have noticed and do not understand is mono, 2 chan and 4 channel. Im looking to have 2 subs, so could I still use a mono amp? Also the ratings for instance say 1000W RMS @ 2 ohm x1. So If I have 2 subs hooked up, would that cut the wattage in half for each sub? I'm thinking yes, but I'm not positive.

I will leave it from there, and hopefully you all can guide me in the right direction in what I need, and also explain to me how it works. I dont expect an entire manual but just so I can figure out how to look for these types of things.

Thank you for your time

Justin

if it comes down to it yes I can build my own enclosure. Not the best handy man but i can get it done. As for room, its basically the entire trunk of a 2002 Taurus se. Now I'm not sure on the exact measurements.

One issue I see here using that amp would simply be about moving up to 2 15" subs in the future. Would that sub be fit for 2 15" subs at that same wattage? Like my question in my post I'm not to sure how amp's work and if I was right the more subs you have the less wattage. For instance 1200 watts @ 1 ohm x1 sub. Would it be 600 watts @ 1 ohm x2?
