Looking for a decent sql subwoofer for under $200

I saw your sugestion but saw the box size and thats going to be too big sorry if I didnt post that but if you look at what he has come from (2 sony xplodes in a prefab box) I think all of these choices will sound better, I should of probably changed the post up and not put sq orientated as there is no way the amount of effort needed for such an install will be put into this build //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
Well that changes everything around then....anything thats been listed will work. Its a shame that hes trying to skip right to the equipment part and skip the parts that will bring the most out of the equipment that will be used.

My brother is deciding to put a sub in his legacy at high levels the bass is completely drowned out by the mids and highs. So he is looking for something to add to the lower end his last set up was 2 12 sony xplodes in a pre-fab on a clarion apx1300. So hopefuly he can get something that can sound better than that and play at a loud enough level to bear evenly with his stock harmon kardon system
so to sum everything up. Im looking for a sql sub mostly leaning towards sq. Budget is 200 dollars(new he is against buying things used) haven't decided on a size but im thinking either a 12, 10 or 8. Only using one sub so keep that in mind
I have had the HK system in a legacy, If the mids/highs are drowning out the set of 12s, something in your install is wrong.

Subwoofers - Cadence Sound Store

The S2/S1, Momentum and even the Pro line will work out well for you.

S1 and the Pro line will not require much power to get them moving.

The S2 line can take more power and more geared towards SPL. However they sound great and blend well.

Cost wise the Pro series is the cheapest, followed by Momentum, S1 and S2..

The HK system comes with componenets up frotn 6.5s in the back doors and one 6.5 "bass speaker" in the rear deck.. the bass speaker is a shallow mount though so it doesnt produce much space. Maybe you had a different hk system but his does not have a factory subwoofer

I never mentioned anything about having a factory sub.

No factory component system is going to drown out the bass coming from a set of 2 12s, unless they are drastically under-powered, wrong enclosure or just installed wrong.

Either way, look into the options I listed. You have a lot of different ways to go that will be a good improvement..But the install is everything. Im sure i can make those Sony Xplodes sound great with the right enclosure.

If you were referring to me then again he never mentioned box sizes and again 2.25 with some foam sealed it would easily be the best sounding other than that flatline the guy recommended. The focals are just kind of unimpressive they are too translucent in a system. Anyways I would go for the skar then because they sound great and love the lows. Obsidian would come in second and the sa line would be last. imo

No I was referring to other subs that weren't as sq oriented.

Yea pretty much decided on the skar vvx 12 for its ability to get so low.. Planning on running it sealed. Hopefully skar is still having the deal going on where they make and send you a box but I think they only do that for ported boxes?
