I've been reading all the forums and am looking for a comp set for a 2000 Sierra. Listen to a lot of different music.

Mostly top 40 and classic rock.

Budget under $350

Will buy amp after I decide on speakers

Will use rear speakers as fill only, powered from factory head unit.

Going to add two 10" subs later.

Like music clean and crisp. not tingy and boomy.

point me in the right direction.

This may sound really stupid. Why doesn't everyone make a 2ohm speaker? Or at least an option for one.

i guess it could be because when you are dealing with regular speakers, not subs, a lot of people will run the speakers off the headunit, and 2 ohms is not good for a headunit. that's the only reason i can think of. also if you are bridging a 4 channel amp, most of them are not stable down to 2 ohms bridged.

Sound about right. Hey since I don't have anything bought yet would it be better to buy a four channel amp, for the components, with an x-over and not use the x-over that the components come with, or am confused?

ur talking about going active with ur components. it can definitely sound better if done rite, but u should probably stick to the given passive crossover if u dont know much about tuning yet. u could still buy the 4 channel amp and bridge it to run ur components passive, and later run them active if u decide to try it.

if you go with a 4-channel amp you would want the 4 ohms because not too many 4-channels are stable at 2 ohms bridged. i would use the crossovers that came with the comps and just maybe high pass your amp at like 80 hz. or so.

you just described and actively crossed setup. did you mean using the xover on the amp or get an outboard xover? for a beginner i would just recommend using the passives

Hey, thanks for the vote of confidence guys, just kidding. If its a big improvement going to an active set-up and I have some help setting it up, is it worth the effort? This is just a daily driver, but I do like good music. I've done a couple systems in the past, boats mostly, but nothing like this. I'm keeping the factory head unit, so maybe I'm going too far with all this anyways.

Thanks
