^ idk, i was planning on just payin for half of the box, and doing the cutouts, because originally he said it was done, it just needed the cutouts, so i was gonna pay half because of the fact i waited, got shit talked, and had to do the rest. but then found out today all that was done was it was glued, no ports, no terminals, no sub cutouts, so i got my sub and left.
idk whatsup with that, i said the same thing. they wonder why there always backed up 2 weeks, its because installers work half of the week. from 10-4 which is even more ridiculous

If I found out some local shop was busy playing my sub instead of building my box like they were suppose to, I do more than take my ball and go home. At the very least Id raise holy fucking hell, tell them my cousin is the best lawyer in town, threaten to contact the local newspaper to describe their business practices, etc. I cant imagine how mad Id be knowing some fuckwad was getting his spooge covered hands on MY speaker to play with how ever he liked, and did so... let alone not fulfilling the agreement promised in the meantime. At the very least Id demand they replace my sub. How do you know they didn't send fully clipped sine waves to it just to see what happened.

so i just texted him just to see whats up. he chats with me, then i ask him how my sub sounded and i get no response. i think im gonna have to go to the owner. not likely that ill get anywhere cuz hes got a lot of happy customers. his happy customer to unhappy ratio is like 1000:1, and im the 1. but im gonna give it a shot anyway.

You now no longer own a new sub, you own a USED sub that may or may not have been abused prior to you ever hearing it for the first time. And for what, so they could borrow it for the day just to measure the cut out diameter? They never should have hooked a wire to it. You payed for that sub NEW, not to let some stranger you trusted with it listen to it before you, unsupervised, while suppose to be borrowing it merely for measuring purposes only. Id be insanely mad. And that's not even counting the failure to follow through on the time line THEY set on a simple box build.

Good thing you didn't leave your girlfriend there for the afternoon too, she'd probably be given back to you *****, pregnant, and hooked on meth.

yea they probably hooked it up and pounded the shit out of it, now you have a sub that has not been properly broken in, it could develop coil rub issues, spider noises, etc The whole deal sounds kind of shady.

They never built the box, so wtf did they hook the sub up for? Obviously to 'play' with it. Even if they HAD built the box, actually running the subwoofer is not necessary in any way, let alone if they hadn't even built the box. And as for the 'favor' bullshit, unbelievable. He was doing you a favor by taking your business to build a box just because he didn't get a 100% retail mark-up on the speaker while he was at it? Write the BBB, write your local paper, write your congressman, this guy is fucking you up the *** and telling you he's doing you a favor while pumping in and out.
JL's CAST baskets mark up just as much as any other company's CAST baskets. This comment alone tells me he thinks he can do anything he wants and act any way he wants just because you didn't buy the speaker from him. Fuck it, call Manville over at JL and let him know what business practices his local dealer is participating in. Explain to JL the situation, and show him the convo the dealer and you had. Im confident JL wont be happy about it. If this plan worries you, call the guy back and threaten to do these things first, that might change his tune without having to contact the BBB, newspaper or JL. He's already raping you, dont let him get a 'happy ending' out it too. And while you're at it, ask him exact;ly why its 'their job' to hook the speaker up in the first place. What, do they have a Klippel machine to verify t/s specs before cutting the wood for a simple box? He's full of shit up to his ears.

Of course you got no answer, because there is no valid answer. You didnt take your sub there to have them test it, play with it, scratch it up.... one simple measurement is all that should have been needed, which you could have even given them over the phone. Obviously they decided to play with your sub to find out what it would do. Its likely they abused it, besides just scratches. Unprofessional as hell. Again you now own a sub you payed for to have NEW, and for all you know the coil is damaged, the suspension damaged, etc. Push the point that there was NO need for them to hook it up, and them playing with your sub was not part of the agreement. I know its not easy because you are 19, but dont take no for an answer. They think they can get away with this exactly because you are 19. If I lived near you, Id be glad to go talk to them with you. I know it sounds lame, but take your dad with you. Tell them your family lawyer is on retainer. Ask for JL Audio's phone number so you can call them and ask if its customary for one of their dealers to play subs they dont own for a simple box build job. Just letting him know you aren't going to slink away without a fight should get something done, because they dont have any good excuse for what they did, and they know it.
