LOC with Factory Compnent System

I have an 07 civic which has a built in amplifier that powers factory components in the front.

Coming from the factory amp there are seperate wires that goto the tweeter and the mid.

If i want to install a LOC for a set of aftermarket components can i just tap the mid for my aftermarket tweet + mid?

Will the factory mid wire have the high (tweeter) and low(mid) signal? or just the signal for the woofer?

thanks for any help/info

LOC Sound like shit, just to let you know.
Can't answer your question though.
If they're installed correctly and the LOC's of decent quality they should sound excellent. High voltage balanced signal - you generally have to pay several hundred to get that out of an aftermarket HU.

Matt - since there is a woofer and tweeter lead coming from the amp the signal may have already been filtered, meaning if you splice the loc in at that point you won't be getting the full-range signal.

If you can find the wires coming INTO the amp you may be able to get signal from there. I would probably cut them and see what the voltage is. You may be able to just solder on some rca tips and avoid having to mess with the LOC.

thank you for your HELPFULL response n2audio.

If i cut the wires coming into the amp how do i check if i need a loc or just the RCA's? I have a multimeter i just dont know what i need to set it to and what kind of a signal i need to look for.

thanks!

Set the dmm to ac volts and play a test tone -- 1000hz or so (available for download at realmofexcursion.com).

If the voltage is somewhere between 1 and 6v you don't need an loc.

check the back of the tweet. If it has a capacitor soldered in line, it's most likely the same signal going to both the mid and tweet. Dealing with signals AFTER a factory amp is trickier than a simple stock HU though...there might be preset tweaks added that you won't be able to adjust out: XO points, LP, HP, boost, etc.

I wouldn't actually CUT the wires going into the amp yet, tap into them first. Use a pin or a wire splice for testing.
