loc help???

Want to add a sub to my bose system. My question is where do I tap into the factory speakers. It looks like each speaker has its own amp but the wires also run to a small black box attached to the rear seat back in the trunk. Do I tap between the hu and the black box? the black box and the amp on the speaker? or can I just tap into the final connection that goes into the speaker itself? Could I use a multimeter to find out which one, if so what voltage am I looking for?

P.S. Sorry for the long post. Also thanks to everyone here, i've been visiting this site for a while and have learned quite a bit, you guys helped me build my box and hook up the sytem in my other car.

Are you suggesting splicing into a factory speaker wire to power a sub?If so...BAD,BAD,BAD. No soup for you!!
Thats not at all what he's saying. If you read the title of the thread it says LOC help. Clearly he's having trouble with a Line Out Converter.

If you have a multimeter handy, test all four of the wires in question. one should be a ground, one should be 12v power and the other two should be + and - speaker level. ususally the two thinner wires are the speaker lines, but you should test to make sure.

also, just put the LOC where the wire terminates into the speaker.

be careful when installing a loc on the output side of an amplified system. Most loc's are resistor based and only rated for 25 watts. Most of the new cars that have amplifiers are rated past that. What will happen is the resistors will get over worked (get very hot) begin to melt the casing , and basicly break down. On high powered systems you should use a loc that is transformer based. you'll have better luck, it can handle much more power. Also newer vehicles will have an internal xover built into them. So be careful. You might not be getting that bass you're looking for. Btw , what make, model & year is the car?

make and model will help. Most people I've read about that have bose systems have to take the WHOLE THING OUT. I've put a DMM on some bose speakers for Caddys and Silverados(inverted neo mags and motors 2 inch or so thick 8" driver), and it for sure wasn't standard readings. That Bose stuff is usually amped exetnally, so maybe that black box is the amp??
