Load testing batteries!

Well without getting into specifics, I bought a battery a month or so ago. Went to my first comp with the new batt in on Saturday. I was down over 5 dbs:crap: The guy I bought the batt from, took a pic of the voltage on a dmm. I did the same when I got it. Charles Estes was at the show and said I needed to check the load on the battery. So the guy at the shop had one of these:

Except his was a 60 amp version. Long story short, battery is garbage, and I am out about $300.

Basically brought this up, because the standard is just a pic of the voltage on the dmm, which does not mean shit. You need to have whoever you are buying the battery from to take a pic of the load test. A load tester is anywhere from $30 to $50 for a decent one, I will be buying one this week.

I am pretty sure the guy did not know, hell I never knew about a battery load tester, and I still would not if Charles did not say something about it

Bottom line is I am not buying a batt again used, unless I see a load test, and I would advise everyone else to do the same. Unless they wanna get fucked

i have a load tester at work that will test acording to the cca or what ever you program it to test to. it aslo has selections for agm, flooded and so on and has a printout for the test results.

it will also charge and test charging systems as well, cost the shop about 5k though but i can use it any time i need.

Yep, I've had 3 batterys so far this year that rested with a 12.7 and up but when I had them load tested with an agm tester one 1800 said it had 154 cca's and the other had 120. Can't remember what the third one was.

Yup load testers do come in handy... I load test mine at buddys shop before I even pick up

Yep, the bad thing with buying used is you don't know what you got until you get it. Unless you have them(seller) post up pic or vid of load test.
