Little question with my amp

It has little dial that says +Dbs(rangeing from +0 to +12) next to the gain/freq I posted this before and was told this is just a bass boost, but I am not sure it makes my subs hit way harder, and it sounds way better with it on. I really want to use it but not destroy my subs.

It is a 1000 Watt Alpine driving 2 15" Kicker L5s. Together they can take up to 1500 Watts so I think it would not be able to hurt them? Also I don't think Alpine would cover up Bass Boost with +Dbs, but I could be wrong here.

Is this something I would just have to use, what is it called an OScope? To check my speakers aren't distorting? If so I am not really interested in spending a bunch of money, but is it possible to download any laptop programs that could do the same?

The knob is probably a bass boost knob. It's centered around a specific frequency in the bass range, alot of them are around 45-50 HZ. It can boost a range of frequencies centered there up to 12 DB. If you absolutely must do it do it at your own risk. And, especially if your subs are fully powered or close to it, dial back on the gain some and use it sparingly, like as in only a tiny bit. With your setup tweaking it a tiny bit probably won't hurt if you're smart about it. Putting it to the max and then cranking the volume all the time will probably kill the sub.

It won't make your sub any harder than without it, it just means the amp will apply more power and make the sub dance at that range of frequencies earlier in the volume range. You haven't actually gained anything.
