I'm looking for a set of midbass drivers... well subbass too. The requirements are they need to play in-door and extend as low as possible. Power handeling up to 100w@4ohm and 160-180w@2ohm. I'd like them to extend as low as possible, preferibly in the 30-40hz range. Price wise, around $150 for the set or less, shipped. Mounting depth can be up to 3 5/8" deep. The diameter can't exceed 7 and as close to 6.5" as possible.

Here's what I've found that I was considering:

AA Poly mids:

pros: cheap, great reputation

cons: tinsel slap

Kicker SSMB6

pros: perfect size, look to be the big brother to the rmb series which were pretty good, cheap

cons: haven't heard or played with them

Image Dynamics CX6.2

pros: good woofers, 2 ohms

cons: finding 'em outside ebay

If anyone has any options about these woofers or know of any other ones that might fit into the application (coustic free air that went in those dual 6/8/10 to 6x9 adapter woofers, kicker freeair woofers maybe?) please chime in with your opinion.

Thanks.

The AA mids are not available right now, and there's no telling if they'll be reintroduced when AA updates their product line.

Why just 4 ohm or 2 ohm mids? I know what your answer will be, but it's a common misunderstanding about power, impedance and sensitivity. You'll notice very little difference between a 4 ohm and 8 ohm speaker with the same amp.

I say this because you open yourself up to a world of possibilities if you go with an 8 ohm driver. The Seas RNX series drivers absolutely rock on midbass. The L18 is a little snappier than the P18, which is a little snappier than the CA18. All great drivers that extend pretty low. You'll have a problem getting any 6 1/2" or 7" driver to extend down to 30 hz with any kind of power handling. They might do it, but you'll really be straining the driver. Unless you're building a well designed vented enclosure for each.

Nothing wrong with 8-ohm drivers. I just don't know the power output of my amps at 8-ohms.

I was recomended the CDT M-6 midbass drivers - good for IB, good power handeling, work well down to 50hz.

Yeah, I'd second the Seas. They'd work ok off 100w @ 4ohms, but they could use a little more juice if you could get it. Something else to look at would be Vifa's PL series woofer. It's suppost to have a lot of midbass, although a bit smooth. I haven't heard a set, but they're suppost to be quite the midbass performer. Plus they actually have a 4ohm version which would suit your amp a little better.

While i have run the m6 down to around 40hz really it depends on the install how low it will go or any speaker for that matter. The M6 though is a solid IB driver. Real sweet output with around 75-125x2rms active.

I looked at the mpyre but thought it would bottom out easy. I got things all straghtened out though. I'm moving my dynaudios to the doors for midbass, I picked up a set of seas excel 5" mag cones for midrange, and and trading my xt25's in for something a little less directional. I already put the dyns in the doors last night and the seas should be here sometime soon.

I see you've got you dillema solved. But //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif The Image Dynamics speakers you were looking at are available at woofersetc.com. I was looking into a pair of 4 ohm versions and checked there. I believe they have the 2 ohmers as well. Plus they're authorized dealers.
