came across some cerwin vega IT-8.0 subs. thinking of experimenting a little. i've always used sealed boxes for 8's, but i want to try porting these just for sh!ts. i was thinking .75 per sub tuned to 40 hz. or maybe i should tune lower? i'm thinking i probably should raise tuning just a little to get a little louder. this is a possible feeler build in prelude to building a system with 4 dayton REF 8's.

i forgot.the subs are 200 watts rms a piece. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif i'm an idiot. i just picked up the sub out of the box and found more paper work. it's telling me to tune it to 35 hz in 1.25^3. seems a little large for an 8, but i guess that's what i'll do. so for 2 i'd need 2.5 net space. i think i'll do 2 3" round ports about 10 1/4 inches long. it still seems like a very large box for 2 8's. maybe not. haven't actually seen any ported 8's. other than prefab internally powered junk.

i hate 8s they are nice in a small install for people who want just a small amount of bass. like rock
i'm about to find out. i've heard both sides and want to find out for myself. i have heard sealed 8's that sounded nice, but lacked output badly. i wish i could post the frequency response chart so someone could help me understand what it means. the peak of the curve is at 35 hz @ 1 db. it then drops a little down to -5 db and straight lines at that through to 500 hz.

EDIT: says that it was in the 1.25 net/1.34 total when charted

8's can be fun man. 1.25 sounds like alot for an 8 but I guess it depends on the driver. My re8's ran in .5 cubes ported each and my dd1508's were around 1 cube ported each. Higher tuning is definately gonna get you more output outta the 8's. If the paperwork says to try 35 I'd try that, not sure I'd go any higher.

they recommend the same tuning frequency for the same model 10, 12 and 15 as well. box size obviously changes. if my math is right, 2 8's should have cone area comperable to a single 12. so there is potential.

i have a box that i built for a single 12. i haven't put a baffle on it yet, so i could use that. to fit them, i would have to do an upside down "v", and slightly face the subs toward each other. would that cause cancellation? it's hard to explain in words, but the box is downfired. i left the baffle out of the build so i could slide it up or down, depending on what box size i need. with 8's i would have to "v" the baffle, or angle it a little to get enough area to fit them.
