Question. Im using a loc. For my sub input and using the back left channel only. Is this bad?

When I think about it, most music is 2 channel, so how do head units actually mix the sub channel if its built in? Is it just the frequencies below the cutoff curve on both channels mixed into a single channel? Does this mean on certain tracks I could be missing bass notes because theyI are only recorded on the right channel?

It depends on the recording. I don't have any music in my collection that plays sub bass only on one channel, but it's possible depending on the artist and recording engineer. I'm sure there are some songs out ther like that.

Well I wouldn't think it would only be on one channel, but perhaps identical on both channels? or possibly stereo? This is bugging me now, i've never though of this. Basically, where does the head unit get the sub channel from? Is it just the frequencies below a curve on both channels mixed down to mono?

HU outputs are stereo, with either preouts or speaker outputs. If the recording has bass on only one channel that's how it will be. You need to use both channels to guarantee you don't miss anything. As I said, most recordings have sub bass on both channels but I wouldn't want to bet on that.
