Line output converter before factory amp or after

ok, only ones Im tapping into are nthe positive and negative speaker leads, so I dont think I'll have a problem with HPF and LPF problems. I think the bass is reduced by the headunit at higher volumes onfortunately. the HU is next on my list to get replaced... Its an 03 Monte Carlo SS if it helps. but I was thinking after as well, just wanted to make sure.

I would place it after (on the amp's outputs).

GM/Delphi radios have a line they call amp sense. When an amp is connected to the headunit, the radio sees the amp sense signal and the software reduces the radio's output to be used as an input signal instead of speaker level.

The amps back then also were not really much more powerful than the headunit itself. Most of the time they were used with 2 ohm speakers to get additional power, or they were just used to allow for additional speakers to be powered.

Even most of today's GM/Delphi amps are only 22 watts @ 4 ohms and 45 watts @ 2 ohms.

Get the PAC SNI-35. I use them all the time for adding subs to factory systems, amplified and non-amplified.

I'd love to hear your explanation for before a factory amp.
On some of the newer vehicles the signal is over processed with the factory amplifiers decreasing the output past the factory amp itself. The newer Chryslers and Dodges are notorious for this flaw. With the upgraded amplifier systems in say the 300's, magnums and chargers it is actually better to tap the converter before the factory amplifier. I had it hooked up both ways before and after--before worked for me--in my particular situation. Many other members have sworn by it as well on those forums. Come this summer I'll be yanking out the converter and going with a PAC unit from the factory HU that should work better with aftermarket amps.
