line out question

i have the rca converter that wires into door speaker wires and converts to a rca plug and i was using that to power my subs until i got a new Hu i bought just a cheap 100 dollar jvc HU and when i hooked up the rca to the HU and played with the settings on it the sub wasnt half as loud as being hooked up to the line out converter

why is that

youre line out converter dose it have gain level adjustment's on it??

no its the apc brand i recall thats the brand on it
