question about screwing in speakers to wood

i dont know what they are called thats why i titled the thread what i did, lmao..

but ive seen some people use for speakers or subs, theyre like little metal tabs that go into the wood, that the screw screws into, so if you frequently remove the sub, you dont wear out the screw holes in the MDF, this way u can screw and unscrew the sub as much as you want... do they have a specific name so i can look for them at home depot? i assume u cant use a wood screw with them, would i have to get machined screws?

I drill hundreds of holes a week so straight enough ain't a problem. A drill press is nice though if you don't have a steady hand. The threads wont strip if you don't over tighten them. A bolts threads are the strength not how tight you make them.

Press them in then takem back out to glue the tabs into the wood also.

i have used these but they are a pain sometimes so i would just stick with screws.

T-nuts in MDF are awesome, you'll never strip out threads again. Just screw em in, and when its time to remove the speaker, you just have to saw it out real quick. No more stripped threads, its great.

I actually ended up just ripping the MDF once I cut a small section out. Two t-nuts side by side had ripped a circle out of the back of the enclosure where their teeth sank in. They weren't over tightened or mis torqued but when they were being removed, they locked up and mis threaded. The second that happened, the MDF broke loose. This was done by hand too and not a drill.
