Line Drivers (LD)

I don't know a whole lot of people running a LD or Signal processor. Why is that? I have one and I know that it helps with my system but I don't know that much about them. Would anyone out there be able to explain the principle behind a LD, and to possible point out the benifits and possible short comings of using one?

THANKS!!

LD's may boost signal voltage, but they also introduce some degree of noise, as all electronic components do. 10 yrs ago, when 1/2v was standard for preout voltage it made sense that the advantages of 8v might have outweighed the relatively small addition of noise.

These days - with 4v pre-outs being almost standard - the usefulness of LD's has been reduced in a big way.

this may be true to some degree. I don't think that under normal surcumstances one needs a LD, I use mine primarily for the burp button I have on mine.

but I would still like to know what kind of problems people have had while using them.

What is the easiest way to "clean" up the input other than using a EQ? Since I installed mine I no longer clip at lower volumes

I have stock speakers in the front a back with my substage. I am looking for a way to lower my distortion and to save my subs. I know that distortion is the leading cause of death to subs and I have been looking for ways to "clean" the signals, do you or does anyone else know of any.

My gains are almost completely down, I just have a signal that is some what distorted and with the stock speakers I notice it more than I normally would. I have been looking to see if anyone has built or knows where to find a signal/noise filter with Frequency adjustments. I think I might have to build my own'

I personally like using mine. Then again, I have very low input from my 2 year old Pioneer (200mv). I also like the fact that each channel can be set independently. Say I have an unbalanced front stage, and the balance on the HU just doesnt have a happy medium. A slight adjust on the one channel, they are balanced!
