Lets say you have $1k for front speakers...

Either Scanspeak Deluxe kit or the GB Neo10 mids (200 each), Neo3 tweets (100 each), and Dayton RS 8" midbasses (50 each). Run 'em active.

Hell, if you can fit the 10" Dayton mids, go with those.

If I go active, I'll only do 2 way fronts.

The MS8 has 8 outs right?

Tweeters + mids + rears = 6

Subs + Center = 2

That takes care of all 8 channels there.

In order to do 3 way front, I would have to eliminate rears.

Or you can eliminate the center. MS8's Logic7 processing does center channel simulator well enough

Because of the way things are looking. The build will be "SQL" oriented. Very SQ oriented up front with a strong sub stage out back thats not necessarily SQ oriented. The catch is that, I will be using a double din HU and I will be running rears.
I suppose, the only way around both those issues is to go with an external processor. In that case, I'll probably go with the MS8 (as I can't see the ARC PS8 really being worth the coin for what I'll be using it for).

Granted I go with the MS8, then yes I suppose I could go active. What drivers would you guys recommend at the price point?

I really like the Scan Illuminator mids as of now. But, I'm still searching.

Planned on using rears with no processing and SQ don't belong in the same paragraph.

I just got some SEAS lotus tweeters that I like a lot. I'd be very interested in trying thier mids.

I really really like planar mids/tweets but they can be finicky about playing off-axis so you need good locations. I've done a 3 way with 6.5" midbass, planar mid, and soft dome tweet, that I really liked.

Even eliminating the center doesn't leave enough channels for the midbass drivers of a 3 way front stage.
That just opens up one channel.
In that case, just strike the planar mids except those are definitely the crown jewel of the setup

I hear SEAS makes awesome tweeters. I never hear much remarkable about their mids, but I do hear that they are solid enough and never much bad so I will consider them.

Your comment about the planars is the main reason that I'm against them. I would need to do a lot of playing with aiming on them, and while that part is fine and I do that with all of my setups anyway, the looks of the Planars just do not fit every location IMO and I don't want to end up with the optimal sounding spot being the most aesthetically unpleasing spot.
Dynaudio ESOTEC SYSTEM two way another couple of bills you could get the three way with 8" midbass...
Think I'm going to run some this year...
That esotec wideband mid is deep as hell, though. It is closed back so I guess you could just loosely mount it in the kick. @TaylorFade ; had some experience with either the esotar or the esotech. He could probably shed some light on it.

There's a really good build log with the BG planar mids and tweets on DIYMA. He just wrapped them in grille cloth and mounted them up the a-pillars. couldn't even really tell they were there.

yep I saw those, I think on woofersetc.

My concern with 3 ways was driver value per dollar.

In other words, how much better are the drivers in $1k 2 way in comparison to a $1k 3 way set where the money is split between two extra drivers and crossover components for them?

I have been looking for something like that. Same idea I was toying with in my head.

Got a link to it?

The esotec benefits immensely from that wideband mid. It's a solid choice if you have the processing for it, but the size would be my concern. It'll take some decent fab to get those where you'd want them

It's bookmarked on my Chrome. I'll PM it to you when I get home. System must have sounded amazing with all the work he put into it.

I'll have to look into the Dims of it then. I'll more than likely head up to my pillars for the mids and tweeters as opposed to kicks.

Def shoot me that link

View attachment 26539678 Can you really get better tweets than that for the money.
Those the PHDs?

I'm running Milles three way right now and I like have'n my mid and tweeter above my dash...

I have ran them as two way and they sounded great that way also... Just for my install having the mid and tweeter above my dash works for me...
