I think the original soundstream amps were the d100 and d200 and were nice amps too. just didnt sound near as good as the mc's did.the amps in the speakerworks grand national were the alpine 3545's with one bridged to each driver in the car. if I remember correctly they did 700rms bridged so power should not have been a problem, even with an alpine amp. I actually had some time in that car at the iasca finals in OKC in 90 or 91. very impressive although I still like Gary Biggs t-type better
The only reason you hear about RC, speakerworks grand national, is because
'they' took the path of 'audio celebrity' to show off their work and it became
well known. If you look hard there are better sound systems. BTW, I never heard
of these folks or their fancy cars because I believe that SQ competitons are a joke to begin with.
Even today, the same is true. For me, it was all about
achieving goals I set, working daily to figure out the issues to get the performace
desired, there was no bragging, etc. I also did some crazy stuff like 'mono-block

I've seen/done basshorns projects too, pretty amazing when you have
a low power budget back in the old days.
Old school was challenging, today people have more 'stuff' to work with
and system design is cake walk, I often wonder why people can't figure out
their easy problems.
