I will be building a new box with an acrylic window about 12 by 24 inches and i want to put some red lights shining inside the box. Should i use single LEDs or some kind of strip? Where could i get them at? And how would i get them to use a remote turn on lead like an amp and draw the power through a seperate power wire?

you have to play with then to see what works the best. but yes you can use your remote wire, just use a relay an use the remote as the switch on the relay. or run a power line to them and use a switch so when you open the trunk it pops on.

second suggestion would be best if you run a relay to be activated when the trunk lid is open.

ideally i would use a 40 amp relay and a pre-wired relay socket for easily assemble.

locate the wire that leads into your trunk light if you have one.(which you should). splice it and run a wire to the REMOTE wire into the relay harness.

run a constant 12v line from your power wire going into the amp to the power input wire for the harness. you can ground your harness to the grounding wire of the amp as well. next, use the power output wire from the harness to run for your LED's.

you will be doing a shit ton of wiring if you use single LEDS. pending on how many LEDs and the locations of where the LEDs are going. an LED strip would work well.
