last ? about sealed / ported

Yea that is true. I am just looking at space/bumpage atm. I had alot of room in my explorer, but now its this tiny trunk.

I know it isnt apples to apples, but am going to put my JL 12w3's in the sealed box and see how that goes.

Then take it out and put the SA10's in a 2.4cuft ported box and see how that goes.....mind you the 10's will get 400 more watts since I can wire down to 1ohm.

If the 10s do not work out then I will have to decide if I like that sealed box sound or give up more room and get SA 12's ported and sell the JL's and SA 10's to buy the new SA 12's.

I plan on doing this in one weekend...run all the power wire / big 3 etc etc so will take pics.

Just trying to decide where to mount the amps...but that will depend on which box I stick with.

38hz tuning? Would that be good for the music I listen too?Never tuned that high...only tried 32hz so far.
38hz is way too high for what I like to use, but it may be nice for others. In my own ride I'll never tune over 30hz again...just too much unbalanced output going from 45-50hz to 30hz...I like a smooth transition. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

yeah most people want the +3-6db gain at the peaks tho..
I have designs that are tuned lower as well but I like the peaks in a vehicle but tune at 24Hz for the house lol
Parden my ignorence but what is the +3-6 db gain?

It's the 3db to 6db gain that you can get by tuning higher. This could also be referred to as the "peak" in the response curve. You'd have to tune pretty darn high(for a daily box) to get a 6db gain in your response curve, but tuning even 5hz higher can get you about 3db's more than what the "flat" tuning would be. It all a trade-off though, tune higher and your low-end suffers, along with there being a noticeable difference in loudness between frequencies/songs. Tune lower and you lose some loudness, but you get that low-end extension and a smoother response curve.

wouldnt it be better to tune 34hz or below for daily, then if its not loud enough upgrade?

i mean dont get me wrong i like loud and all but i dont want it to sound crappy and be loud. rather just go up a size, add another sub, better subs, etc.

I agree, but some people don't mind it...all personal preference I guess.

Well I listen to mostly music with alot of bass, so figure the 30hz tuning would be right up my alley.
30-32hz with those SA12's will suit you well.

Well I had a 3.5cuft @ 32hz for my JL's. That was pretty loud and I liked the sound across the different music.

Figuring 30hz might dip a little more into the lows?

When I put on Young Jeezy or DJ Magic Mike that is where I want the box to shine.
