laquer thinner for deadener installation?

I've read all over that people clean their panels with laquer thinner or paint thinner before putting stuff like Second Skin on the panels but I just want to ask if people still do this and won't it **** the paint up? Not that you will see it obviously but I am curious. I am going to the store to buy some once I get an answer... or maybe I wont... depending on the answer.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

i was just about to suguest rubbing alcohoal. - there is also a car baised product - wax and tar remover - its used in prep for paint on cars - leaves the surface clean of oils dirt and any other sort of build up that will prevent good adhesion to the surface - i had a can left over from last time i painted on the lowrider - so i used that in prep for applying to my roof ( altho i did not use deadner this time - as im going full plywood roof attached with locktite pl adhesive

Do it.it doesn't do anything to the paint.I detailed cars years ago and used quite a bit on the exteriors.
some cars are not cleared over the paint on the inside,so the thinner will remove paint and soften/and or remove the primer underneath..

as Umbra said rubbing alcohol is a safe bet...

Acetone cleans great and good to prep surface because the sound deadner you use will stick longer and lessen chance of it peeling off. I had my deadner on my doors for several years and it never came off but if you deaden the roof make sure u put back headliner. Once it came summer my deadner started coming off but could have been avoided by putting my headliner back up.

well I bought the lacquer thinner... now I just have to wait till I can muster up the courage to go in my 120 degree truck and move a 300lbs box around my cabin to get it out the way.

Get some of those magic furniture mover things. They're discs that are silky smooth on one side and rubberized and grooved on the other. Makes sliding around heavy boxes easy.

I will get some for next time I have to do this ****... I just finished doing my back wall with damp pro and my floor with luxury liner pro. Took me about 5 hours and I have the blood sweat and tears to prove it...

Honestly I'm a little disappointed the LLP didn't work like I thought it would. It made a difference but not night and day. I'm gonna do spectrum on the firewall and the tire wells and see where that gets me. I haven't done anything to the doors yet though so that might make a difference too.

I haven't done anything to my floors at all, nor have I put down anything like LLP, so I might not be the best help here, but did you use it with a decoupler, like a foam layer, to separate it from the metal?

Also, most of the road noise comes from the wheel wells, not necessarily the floors, so you want to focus your efforts there.

what do you mean? All I've done so far is put the LLP under my carpet. I don't have an amp right now so I'm not putting the damp pro on because I wanna do a before and after. Only reason I did my back wall with it is because I didn't wanna have to move my box again lol.

Don't worry about it. LLP is mass loaded vinyl. Typically you put that on top of a sheet of foam to separate (decouple) it from what you're applying it to, but I just looked it up and learned it comes with a foam side adhered to it already, so you can skip that.
