Laptop running hot?

Ive been using my girlfriends laptop daily, on my computer desk since my HD went out in my desktop. Lately its been running hot occasionaly, like itll just be sitting there and the fan will come on and itll be hot as shit even when idle. Previously it would only do that when gaming or something. Still runs fast and everything, and the only program that lags is windows task manager (not sure why) but i think it may be a virus or something being that i dont have any protection other than windows firewall. What do you guys think?

I don't know shit about computers man, but I had that same issue with my old hp laptop

17"screen

t5500 CPU

256 mb nvidia go 7600 gpu

2 gb ram

Mine runs hot al the time. Thats the way it has always been. It prolly doesnt help that it runs 24/7 but I got so much school work its rediculous

Brand? Dell had/has a few laptops with overheating issues. Had the fan replaced on my last dell xps for free. Could also need a cleaning, dust can block the intake or exhaust.
