I am looking for a laptop under 1000 with around the following specs

at least 1.8mhz

no less that 60 gig hd

512 ram

17" widescreen, but will settle for 15.4"

built in wireless

DVDR is not necessary

any recommendations, the lower the price the better

Check out the dell's, just got a XPS for my uncle for 1100 last week. 2.2ghz, 1gb ram, 60gb drive. buts it's not a 17" screen.

I could go on, but I won't. lol...I used to have a nice review about it from maximum pc. I believe it actually beat the alienware it went against. The first gen's where kind of heavey but I think the gen2 has fixed this issue.

i have a 9300 same chassis as the 17" XPS, different case...it doesnt ****..but it is fcking huge..and heavy..really more a desktop replacement..that you can take with you if you want. Battery life sucks *** with a GF 6800 and a 17" screen. Im really happy with it. I think the new one is the e1705.

DO NOT get Dell CPU's or laptops. when I worked on base, government uses Dell. I think we had about 5 CPU's crash a night, and most was fried hard drives. Laptops always over heating. Get Gateway, Sony, IBM, and MAYBE HP. PErsonally i have a HP for when i tune cars, and i hate it. The mouse buttons wore out in a year and it has issues. I would go Gateway personally. MY 94 model Gateway is faster than my buddies moms 2005 Dell top of the line.
