i'm in the market to buy a laptop. i see that a few computers have intel's new duo core processor. i went to the electronics shop and the guy told me that 1.6ghz duo core is equivalent to a 3.2ghz processor. does anyone know this to be true?

the only 15" laptop that comes with the duo core processor is made by fujitsu.

any opinions on fujitsu?

thanks in advance.

yeah the 17" is little too bulky, that's why i want a 15".

i dont know if i want the duo core. i been reading that the duo core is the next generation of chips. they are cheap, and supposedly rock.

here is one article i read.

http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,124230,00.asp

not to mention itel's site is all about it as well as the mac site.

plus the guy at the electronic store said that it's the newest, baddest, shit out there.

i'm asking you guys (those that are computer pros) if it's the way to go in laptops.

anyone?

here's a better question, would you rather get a

Intel® Pentium® M Processor 760 (2.0 GHz)

or

Intel® Core™ Duo Processor T2300 (1.66 GHz, 2 MB L2 cache, 667 MHz FSB)

from my very limited reading on the subject i think dual core is more for doing CPU intensive task at once, multi tasking. So if you do a lot of that then i would get the dou...if not i would get the pm 2gz.. i have a 1.86pm and it fcking screams.

dual core does not give double the performance .... 2 X 1.6 does not equal 1 X 3.2... It is similar to the gain in graphics performance with dual video cards (crossfire, etc..) You will receive possibly 20-50% gains in performance for those software packages that are designed to take advantage of the technology. There are many software packages (Adobe Photoshop) that have lower benchmark scores with the dual processor when compared to the same speed single core. I would stick to single for now and maybe look at double 2 years out for a lappy. If you were building your own PC I would say to look @ AMD 3400 X2 or 3600 X2...

my $.02
