laptop memory help

i just installed some more ram in the slot under my computer. i discharged static electricity like the dell website told me. i rebooted and it still says the original memory. does is sound like a bad chip? any help would be great

Make sure it is in all the way?

I also think some ram doesn't work with others, could be wrong though.
