l7 making odd noise

My L5 did the same thing. Sounded like plastic hitting plastic. It wasn't the box, because I free aired it and it made the same sound. I wall socketed it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

so if i called kicker and told them wat was going on they would replace it since its brand new
Dude the voicecoil is ****ed up, you burt it up. Just happened to a buddy of mines sub.

Depending on how long you played them they should only get worse from here on out, because im sure you LPF/HPF/SS are set wrong. Its mainly your LPF that ****ed it up I would say.

yea thats wat it sounds like

i burt it up do what, i didnt do nothing to it had both wired to 4ohms on a zx850.4

bridging the amp so i was running only 425rms at 4ohms to each sub and now i have them wired to 2ohms to a zx1500 giving them 800rms a piece

and how in the hell can u have a lp or hp set wrong or even the ss think about it man the zx1500 doenst have high or low pass setting its set for low pass only and the subsonic is set in the amp at 25hz do you even know what you are talking bout

Obviously they will do something about it to correct it..

I'm pretty sure it has a 1 year manufacturers warranty..

Did you buy it locally? If you did take it back there they should swap it out..

well today is the fist time i hooked them up to the zx1500 since i got my batttery in

they were running on 425rms a piece and never noticed it and it always seemed to be just as loud actually got a lil louder since they were breaking in but i doubled the power today although they are louder i expected more

would low bass output be fom the voicecoil messed up and if it was then wouldnt i be able to tell with a dmm testing the ohms

Speaking of that, my L7 did the same thing but I don't know if it was like KR's problem..

I only heard it when I opened the trunk, I would never hear it while being in the car so it never bothered me that much..

Mine did it all the time. On low volumes, high volumes, heavy bass from rap, softer hitting from country, also didn't matter if the trunk was open or not, you were still able to hear it.

my L5 did that too, 2008 model. and when i pressed on the cone a bit it didn't even sound scratchy. and in the manual it said 2 week break in period for optimum bass.

yea i bought two refurbs the 06 models one was labeled wrong on the coils and i wired it up according to the stickers on the sub and wired it where the coils were playing against one another it it blew so i sent it back got replaced since it was their fault even though i should of check with a dmm, the other the cone came unglued or something and it got replaced so i got two brand new 08 models for 285 bucks plus i spent 50 in shipping both subs so basically 335 and i bought them from vminnovations or w/e so they are covered under warranty.

but i am not wanting to go through the hassle and another delay and shipping the sub back, i cant hear it unless i am close to the sub and idk if it will hurt it worse or wat

wats weird is its only the one so idk i dont think its bottoming out they should be with the power i am giving them and the box isnt huge or anything

Just pull the sub out and visually inspect it while slowly turning the volume up until the point of the "noise". You should be able to tell what is going on just by looking at it like that. I have 3 guesses......1. sub unloading and bottoming out (possible box design problem) 2. bad glue joint (spiders may have came loose at the triple joint) 3. slinkied coil (coil came unwound and sub is no longer playing, just moving). Those are all just hypothetical guesses, and none may be right //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

its playing bc u can tell when the part of the song is just like talking and no bass both subs feel the same and you can hear both and the excursion is exactly the same
