L7 help!!

my 2 12" l7's are broken. the voice coil is ripped half way around on one and on the other the wire coming from coil 2 input is frayed and totally off. i was told by a kicker dealer that because i had so much power(1000w) to each and a small enclosure the pressure inside the box was too much and this was the result and had seen this a lot. i had them running since about feb.

a few people have told me that this isnt true so i was wondering if anyone had some suggestions to what might be the problem if the dealer isnt right.

Geez man... that's teh suxx0rz. From past experience though, the frayed wire is from defective materials on the tinsel lead. Either that or defective materials on the soldering used at the terminals. If they are under warranty, kicker should replace that one. The coil damage though, it's hard to make out, but you can see it. Not much you can do there though. I honestly don't think a small sealed enclosure is going to make a difference though. If a tinsel lead is to come off, it will happen regardless of enclosure.

hard to see how both drivers failed. Tindel lead, and coil burned even off 1000 watts is easy, can I guess what type of box? Tinsel lead is from over excursion, and burnt coils is either overpowered, or majoryly clipped.

Generally a small enclosure is going to increase the power handling of the driver. Problem is, the lowend extension suffers in the smaller enclosure and most people try to remedy this by throwing more power or cranking the gains.

Having used a multitude of Kicker products from even their infancy, I can say I've never had a driver fail that wasn't due to my own ignorance or zealousness.

I'm going to guess they were severly clipped. The fact that they lasted as long as they did is a testament to their build.

Seeing as how you are dealing with your local dealer, did they do the install? If so, it was their responsibility to set the gains correctly, and IMO, their fault if they are fried. Of course this is assuming you didn't go in and screw with their settings.
