Just want to add a few things here.
Yes you can tune a sealed enclosure BUT its not universal like for ported. A ported enclosure tuned to 30hz is a tuned enclosure tuned to 30hz for any woofer, i guess you could take into account the difference in the actual woofer's displacement inside the enclosure but most are between .1-.2 so its not gonna make a big difference cept in REALLY small ported enclosures. But tuning a sealed enclosure is all subwoofer dependent. You can raise or drop the Q of the setup by "tuning" the enclosure size. Its kind of just a play on words, but basically I don't want someone to think that just sealing any woofer in a 1 cube enclosure is good. SOme subs like my sub takes around 7-8 cubic ft to get the same qtc as say a Elemental E12A which only needs 1 cube or so to get the same qtc.
And ported is NOT just for SPL, and sealed for SQ. most high end home audio subs are ported, and not just for SPL, if they just wanted SPL believe me these home audio guys have deep pockets, they could get 100 15" subs if they wanted to. But because it suits the woofer better. some woofers are actually better performers for SQ in ported applications. 1 such sub is the Focal Utopia subs. These are over $1000 each TOTALLY designed for SQ and nothing else. THEY DO NOT GET LOUD AT ALL, and they need a ported enclosure to sound balanced.
Balanced = better SQ
