KX1200.1 upgraded from P3001

I had 2 p3001's they pushed max 300RMS each to 2 pairs of 2ohm subs.

I got a Kicker kx1200.1 now and am going to wire the subs to a one ohm load, I know I can I have reseached it. anyways my questions are probably stupid but the amp can play 4 ohm 2 ohm and 1 ohm how do I know that which ohm its on?

does it just notice what the load of the subs are? And what kind of improvement should I expect, I have the big 3 done! Box is ported to 40hz and subs are 4 kicker cvr's 10 inch 2ohm dvc... it is double the power I was running before...

look on your kicker manuals for wiring... it should tell you how to wire all 4 subs to a 1 ohm load. or just click here :

I know how to do that thanks but now i don't have to find that page but will the amp just play at 1 ohm?

yes, the amp will recognize the ohm load automatically.

kx1200's are pretty tight and have lots of power. Its best to have it at 1 ohm though since it will do the full amount at that load. They also have no problem staying at that load daily. They will hardly ever heat up or go into protect. For the time that I had my kicker amps they have never done any of these things.

well i have heard of this but I would assume that the amps would just turn off if the voltage would drop that low. It has happened to me before. But Im pretty sure an average electrical system could handle the pull of the 1200 as long as the wiring is at least 4 gauge.

Yeah the wiring is 4 guage.

As for the better amp, Kicker says that the subs can only take 500rms max, The amp gain will be set properly next spring when i install it back in the car but what difference should I expect, I won't have to turn the gain up as high because the amp is more powerful so...

Will I get a cleaner wattage?

Should I expect it to be louder? I am only looking to send maybe 500RMS(Ill set the gain and back it off alittle.

The reason I got the amp was because It could play the same amount of wattage with it not being set as high.

The subs are normal 300RMS so I had the p3001's which put out 300RMS max. And now the KX1200.1 can easily do that wattage, as the other amps would have to be pretty much maxed out to do that(which I never did, they were set properly before)

the kicker amp is highly underated so even with it set at its full potential you wont have to turn the gains up that high. You could probably send the subs a bit more power because it will give you clean unclipped power all they up to around ~ 1400 watts.
