KX 2500.1 cutting out at 1 ohm :( ?

but do you play it on music? lol

one would think if not having enough current would reflect in voltage drops. is it possible for this 2500.1 to cut out as a result of insufficient electrical backing YET NOT have voltage drops under what is seemingly normal....?
Yeah, I played it @ 1 ohm daily, just not full tilt for long periods of time. Is the protection light coming on and shutting off?

yes it cuts out and comes back almost instantly.

I guess it might be correct to say some do it some don't. Few years ago i had another kx 2500.1 that ran fine off a g34 red top up front / g31 red top in the back, 90amp alty, and 1/0 all around. Played .7ohm dcr right at 12v all day. Got pretty hot from the abuse but never cut out once on me.

That amp was never intended for 1 ohm. If your going to stick with that amp get a second alternator rated at 200 amps and a capcell or capacitor after your powermaster.

Have you checked the voltage on the remote wire when the problem is happening?
i'll check that tonight. iirc my remote on is connected to a car fuse tha'ts rated 10amp.

i have a voltmeter up front connected to the cars ignition 12volts. i've measured at the amp with a dmm and the 2 readings were within .1 v of each other idle, half, and full tilt.

maybe it is that remote wire, i sure as **** hope so.

remote wire is fine.

for those saying insufficient electrical.... why is it on some primus song itll cut out at full tilt, but my voltage is still 13.9v-14v with no adnormal fluctuations. Even on the heaviest of primus bass songs i dont go under 13.5v. Although the output level is a little bit louder at the ear now, its not a far cry from the output level ive been doing daily for about a year now. No issues whatso ever with the amp at 2 ohms nominal, and if it were inadequate electrical wouldnt there be voltage drops as the amp is straining the electrical?

From my experience with the kx and zx line. Some will do it and some won't. I have a 06 zx2500 that can do it no problems at all. But an older kx model wouldn't no matter what my electrical was. I think you just have one that won't do it.

yea these amps are weird i got a zx1500.1 no voltage problems and when the gain is even turned up harldy nothing not even touched for that fact, and getting 4 volt preout voltage it gets hot to the touch pretty **** hot, but the other 4 channel kicker amp is fine never figured why

why do some people think that the kx's aren't meant for 1 ohm? isn't that what they're rated for? and if they won't run at that ohm level then I'd send it to kicker to have them fix it cause it should.

To the OP, I have a zx2500 that I was running at 2.67 ohms. I have an extra optima in my cargo area and 1/0 wiring and it showed no signs of severe voltage drops and never went below 12.6 volts. yet no more than 30 seconds after I started my car up and went driving the amp went into protect while trying to produce a heavy bass note and then cut off and went up in smoke. I was watching the voltmeter on my dash closely to make sure that it didnt dip to low and when I heard the bass cut out I looked up into my rear view mirror and saw that the amp was in protect so I turned it down and the amp immediately went up in smoke.

it's not normal for an amp thats rated at 2 ohms to go up in smoke when it was wired at 2.67 ohms and showed no signs of severe voltage drops. but I guess shit happens. imo, your electrical doesnt seem strong enough to support that big of an amp at that low of an ohm level.

my 1500.1 that I had before I got a 2500.1 got pretty hot to after just driving around. Didn't have it at full tilt either and it would just get really hot really quick.

after some more time playing with it ive been successful at getting it to play full tilt without hitting the cut off point. over the last week ive been really good with being able to hear it's peak point and know where to leave it for full output.

although it requires some finer tuning, i can still get the bass louder and cleaner than it was before at 2 ohms while avoiding the cut out point. I have been and will continue to keep an eye on my amp board and VC temperature after periods of abuse. So far so good. I'm going to throw together some acrylic panels and fans on the board to improve ventilation and give it a unique look.
