Knocking sound from sub at high volumes

i got everything all sealed up now and it sounds great and gets loud but when i turn it up real loud on songs like late night tip or bass i love you theres a really distinct and loud knocking noise. Anyone know what this might be. The box is completely sealed. I think it may be bottoming out cause the x-max gets to way more than 27mm. How can i stop this. Any help would be appreciated

Sounds like over excursion. Possibilities are too much power, too large of a box, or tuning issues.

its in 6 cf sealed. But thats what recommended for it. Its an 18

also i havnt set the gains properly yet so it might be getting a clipped signal or something like that

Well that could be a reason if your gains have been set to high!!

setting my gains seemed to stop it for now but well see. I set it to 1000 and i could barley hear it with everything flat. So i put loudness to medium and it sounds great and excursion seems a little more in control

x2... What wur your gains set at?? No matter what i set my gains at, on any system ive ever had, ive never bottomed out or slapped the leads .. And for the most part ive put at least 25% more than RMS to them..

1 Mag 15 and my ears distort before the mag reaches its mechanical limits or my samp gets anywhere near clipping.

Sounds a lot like bottoming out only not.
