I remember Gracie fighting someone and even though the guy tapped out and the ref tried stopping it Royce Gracie still broke the dudes arm. That's just ****ed up.

i forgot about him, i seen him do something similar back then too. that armbar was wicked

Right, you probably didnt even watch him when he was in his prime. I agree he is way past his prime. No wonder Otiz beat him hes 15 years younger isnt he?
UFC is slowly becoming what you saw tonight. Deal with it. Prime example of this is that stupid tapout show and the 15 other ones you see on FSN MTV VH1 and whatever else is carrying them today.

Its the same cycle wrestling went through ~10 years ago.

dude STOP SAYING UFC!!! You mean MMA. Jeez, the UFC isn't the only brand of MMA (which this night proved) but is by and large the best brand. The UFC has never EVER had such a horrible showing. Neither has the WEC.

No I have been watching MMA and grappling for a very long time , Ken Shamrock was choked out in the very first round in UFC one, He was a decent fighter in Pancrase which was hybrid wrestling with open palm strikes, but after that he was not a good or even decent MMA fighter you forgot he got knocked out by a then 185 lb fighter in Rich Franklin. The UFC is going mainstream yes but not WWE style its a sport with real fighters wwe is staged and is purely entertainment, I am a hardcore fan and want the mainstream media to like mma because this will mean more sponsors and better pay and will bring in better fighters and athletes.

I agree the WEC is awesome because the skill showed by the lower weight guys. Tomorrow nights main event will be mma not sloppy bs like tonight.

Im not talking about MMA im talking about UFC. UFC is the old school brand of MMA that I grew up loving and watched every opportunity I had. There will always be a true blend of MMA that is grass roots and will be the kind I grew up loving. I'm saying that its all going to become commercialized and fall into 1 or 2 major things ( like wwf and wcw in wrestling) that will be used to market the product. And they all will end up looking like this on network television.

Luckily there will always be that grassroots organization ( think old school ECW to complete the wrestling analogy ) that will be the MMA i grew up enjoying.

Well at least you watched the sport, I get tired of ppl saying shamrock was overhyped because of that bs that was on teh ultimate fighter or whatever. You cant tell me that that stuff wasnt staged. Me and you both know that that garbage on that series was a mixture of WCW wrestling and the real world(mtv "reality" tv show)

the UFC put rules in place so it could be sanctioned in every state and to protect fighters from serious, life-threatening injuries. there's nothing cool about someone still fighting after getting a limb broken

I agree, but how about stopping a fight because somebody got poked in the eye. You watch and see, if I'm wrong I'll be the first one to admit it. But I truly believe that once you start goign that direction its a short trip to political correctness and whats "right"

Yes the Ultimate fighter show is garbage I still watch it because of my love for mma. But even before the ultimate fighter Shamrock was fighting in Pride fighting in Japan and I don't think he won a fight. You should check out Pride fighting dvds from Japan you would love their style with knees and stomps on the ground.
