kickpanel vs door mount: sound deadening.

I'm in the process of mounting a pair of 5 1/4 rainbow pro comps in my doors of my 2000 Grand Prix. I have one side it and while it doesnt sound bad....I expected better. I know the install has a TON to do with it.

I'm wondering how much better these speakers would sound in set of Q-Logic or Q-form kick panels? If I went that route....is the only deadening that is required to deaden the back/enclosure of the kick panel? That seems to me like it would be much easier than messing with deadening a door.....

Go check out http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/ to help determine what deadener to use, I ended up with the RAAM mat and was really happy with the product- and service.

As far as deadening your doors, if you use kick panels you still want to keep road noise out of the cabin. I did my entire interior, and the difference was worth it. I would do it all over for sure.

If you don't use kick panels, you'll have to use a lot more deadener- there are good tutorials through this site. If you follow them your door mounted speakers will sound way better.

I guess you'd have better sound with the speakers pointing towards your head, so go with the kickers if that's your goal. Keep in mind, if you haven't tuned the system yet or added a sub etc. you may have a long way to go in the sound quality department. I wanted a totally stock look, and hate kicking the shit out of my grills all the time so I went with the door mounts, and have some imaging tweeters for the A pillars on the way. The sound is very good, and I'm happy.

Hopefully that helps some.

Actually, my stock mounts in the door angle the woofers up towards my ear. Kind of nice.

I bought some peel and seal (even though I know its not as good as Raamat) but probably cant put it on anything other than the inside of the plastic door right now. Its winter here in Minnesota and my Garage is NOT heated. It'd never stick.
