Kicker L5 15" Sounds Weird, What Could It Be?

Depends on what kind of bass your looking for..
I like the tap out bass in the 40hz area, but when I swapped from my corvette to the celica I noticed a sht load of a difference with the same setup. I could no longer feel it in my throat like it was choking me, let the lows were extremely dominant like 29-33hz, where in the corvette those did like.. nothing relatively speaking. So I guess the way the celica is I should make a box with a lower tuning frequency since it doesn't hit the 40s that well?

add: the celica still hits hard in the 40s just not as much in the corvette.

I know that' date=' I'm talking about the DB advntage of tuning to a different frequency and using a bigger box etc, would it be worth it if I am not burping etc..[/quote']
bigger box will shorten the port length you need to achieve tuning but you'll need more port area.

smaller box will need longer port length to achieve lower tuning but you will need less port area.

bigger = more efficiency and easier to have more pronounced lows, typically flatter response.

smaller = power handling and peakier response, more controlled cone movement.

tuning low = more lows obviously, might tradeoff some upper hertz bass dbs. Generally sounds better on modern synthesized bass music

tuning high = boomy/peakier response curve, more upper bass extension and louder at the 40-50hz region but peaks sound wierd unless you have it in the perfect song.

Its all having to do with tradeoffs. What do you want with your box?

Do you think with a new bigger box tuned higher I can get that throat shaking feeling like before? To be honest I have no idea what to expect from this build I am doing. Since I have only had this HDS312. I'm sure even if I did the 5cu tuned to 34hz I would be happy lol.

the corvette is a lot more sound deadened and well built structurally then the celica, no flex in that fiberglass body, of course it will be louder. Toyota cars are a b*tch to get loud in lol.

Need to clear something up though, So you are getting more lower notes with the celica but no more strong 40-50hz slam?

Your 100% right about toyotas being hard to get loud. You can make them SQ beast though.

takes a lot of MLV though and lose a lot gas mileage in doing so lol. The road noise is hella high in every 2012 and under Toyota that I've been in.

@I&\#39;mPoor\:\( ; yeah you can try a higher tuning and do some major sound deadening. Gotta reduce the peak frequency of the car so that higher tuning wont sound like complete @ss because it can get peaky once cabin gain kicks in.

What? Getting 18mpg in a scion is not good mpg?

I got close to that mpg on my corolla after all the deadening and extra batteries I put on it. Only 20 miles to the tank on average.

I'm dreading to do the deadening job on my sienna right now. $$$ up the *ss and gonna probably get 14 miles per gallon. But the road noise right now is unbearable, still used to my corolla's sound proof environment.

This fusion is whisper quiet. They put some kind of felt stuff in the wheel wells.

if you want something cheap, and acceptable quality, stinger roadkill. If you want great stuff thats thick like sheet metal, second skin pro or alphadamp.
How much would 40sq ft of the stinger roadkill weigh. Looking at my MPG drop from 29 lol :'(

Nvm found it only 25pounds not bad
