Kicker L5 15" Sounds Weird, What Could It Be?

No, I am not. I was curious because if you were southern Ohio around Cinci I would have been willing to drive up and meet you and help diagnose the issue. I'm only about an hour or a little less from Cinci from where I'm at in Kentucky.

Im all late, but the box being made the way it is your sub is just bottoming out on high notes.

Purchase a recommended specs box for the L5 or lower your gain and get what you get.

Either way if you heart pounding bass out of that sub you will need a ported box.

Also have you checked to see if the sub is mounted flush on the box?

What size OA's? I contemplated getting a 15". For the moment, the P3's are staying in the car until that L5 straightens it's act up lol

Downtown - august alsina decaf version, is the standard man, gotta get at least that low, gonna be hard to do it with kickers.

Sounds like coil rub. Had a pair of comps beat on them for a while, as the spiders got soft the slowly got coil rub at high volume on some notes it will slowly get worse.

I actually planned on getting a new box eventually. I'd like to get the L5 working correctly because it actually hits low, unlike my P3's. Unfortunately, it sounds like a mechanical sound. The sound is in the video.

Dude those P3 will crush that kicker if you put them in a better box. You can't expect a prefab that's to small and tuned at 40hz to play lower than 35hz with any kind of output. The P3 is the best sub RF has. It's not the loudest, not the best sounding but it's a decent mix.

Well you said they are tuned at 40hz? That's not going to play low. There are some subs that can tune at 40 and hit 30 but that's not one of them.

They're tuned to 36hz. I didn't get a new box because I didn't think just subtracting a few hz would make a huge difference.

Im guessing you thought i meant a pre fab.

The L5 being a kicker may sound ****** gettimg loud, but is louder then a p3.

purchasing a custom box with recommended specs used by what most use would come out alright.

Hes not looking for numbers. Whats your problem always attacking people to purchase what you feel is good.

If he wants the L5 to work then let him.

I see nothing wrong with his choice.. not everyone wants to buy a dd or jl.

I wish I could get a higher end system, but I'm only 19. I would like to just fix the L5 if I could. I'm lookin for low-end, and the 15" L5 seems to hit much lower than my 2 12" P3's thus far.
