Keep 12 inch Type R or sell for different setup?

Hi, I used to have two Alpine Type R's in a simple sealed box, but then one day the left Type R blew (When I press down on face of subwoofer it makes a small scratching sound), I was just told by a buddy that the sub was done for and I trust him because he is pretty knowledgeable when it comes to car audio. Anyways I am trying to decide if I should sell the one Type R that I have left for something different or just keep the one I have now and get a matching Type R. I am honestly pretty discouraged since this was my first experience with my own car audio and I ended up ruining

my system pretty badly..

I would appreciate some subwoofer suggestions //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif also need some suggestions for an amplifier to pair to these subs since I also fried my Rockford Fosgate t1500-1bd.

My budget is around 450$ for subwoofer + amp.

Also another question, would it be possible to convert my dual sealed box into a ported box? And how difficult would it be to do?

I can post pictures if needed.

THANKS //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Hmmm. something in me doubts your buddies knowledge. Sounds like you got a little coil rub going on though. Personally I'd sell both the Type-R to get a little money for a new system. But before doing that I'd look into why/how you damaged your subwoofer. Then you should figure out how you fried your very nice Rockford amp. And I would be willing to guess there was some improperly used bass boost, and poorly set gains. Some decent sub/amp combos can certainly be had in that price range. You could also find some good repair quotes for the amp too, if you plan on keeping it.

As for building the box up to a ported box... it might be possible, hopefully some builders could chime in, but it likely won't be worth the effort.

Yup I am starting to doubt his knowledge too haha, I already sold the amp to someone on here to help save up some more money for a new amp.

And I am not sure how big of a difference a ported box makes vs. a sealed box or how much money I should look at spending on a nice box.

get the dual 10 skar audio deal and then just a single amp that does 1k at 1 ohm.
How much?
