Just wondering....

I may be fairly new to car auido, but I have to pull the BS CARD on this one. Sorry bigbassman, but the RE* is only rated 175watts rms. I cant beleive one would take 550 and I know there's no way it could take 1.2kw
If you knew who loyd was, and what he is capable of (and tested mind you), you would take your statement back. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

OK, well who IS loyd, and what is he capable of and tested?

Im curious now, I just don't understand how a 175watt rms sub can take more than triple the recommended wattage or more than 7x if you use the 1.2k figure. IF thats possible then maybe I should get an 800 watt amp,and really show the Sony's a thing or 2. Could the RE8's take 400watts each daily with no problems...come on, somebody educate me. Hell, LOYD, please explain to me how it was possible to put that much power to those little subs. I want to know. (OH and if anyone here thinks I am being sarcastic here, I assure i am NOT. If those babies can handle that much wattage, I want it that way...I love the BOOOM!!)

ok, just talked to loyd on AIM. I shoulda known, both those were burps....he said the RE's could still take 300rms daily, but I think I will stick with the 400watt amp, just to stay on the safe side.

Given the same alignment, the driver with more displacement is capable of more LINEAR output. That's not open to debate or interpretation, it's a fact. It's easily verified with any scientific output testing, always has been, always will be. If you think otherwise, please realize that you are mistaken.
Now obviously that doesn't mean the driver with the higher displacement will be louder in ALL situations and at ALL frequencies, as obviously we can take a lower displacement driver and tune it to a high frequency while we have the higher displacement driver in a flat reponse alignment and get more SPL from the lower displacement driver at or near tuning, but that's about it.

Non linear SPL isn't predicted accurately by linear displacement, because it isn't remotely linear, but when we are talking about linear output, i.e. the only thing output we're going to be using with music, then displacement is still king, assuming you are actually utilizing it.

The RE 8 outdisplaces the DD, thus in a similar alignment, it is going to produce more linear output than is the DD.

you still have some physic equations missing. it's not all about vol disp. you're tunnel visioned.

i'm not going to join in this. i know you are knowledgable. but i'm not going open your eyes to the missing link. if you feel that you don't know it all and there's more to learn, you will search it out and find it.

that install is the 147 db one I was referring to earlier..
single RE 8 in a 4th order I designed... with an old *** orion hcca amp
