Just wondering....

In a couple of months I am getting 2 RE8's in a custom made box. I know 8's aren't the best around, but I am getting them because of space considerations. They will be powered by a Phoenix Gold Xenon 400.1 , so thats 200 watts to each sub. they are rated 175 watts rms, but can take the extra 25 each.

Anyway, I was wondering if they could sound both better and louder than a system a friend of mine has. He has a Sony 12 inch Explode subwoofer being powered by a Sony Xplode 1000 watt max amp (ewww, I know Sony is no good, but he had this system before we met)/ I know Sony is WAAAY off, doesnt the sub only handle like 350 watts rms?

MY goodness! Those re's will sound soooo much better . Sony subs for lack of a better term **** for sq. If you could get 10's instead, you would have a field day with him. I see space is a issue. I would try to get 10's in a coustom box, if you can.

ok,I know they will sound better, but will they be louder? And they 8s are already installed in the box, the guy is just holding them for me till i get the money....$175 for both subs and a custom made ported box tuned to 35hz....sounds like a good deal for me!

They are going in a 2004 Dodge Neon, which has plenty of room, but I don't want to take up half the trunk.. Anyway, like I said, they are being held for me, and I'm not going to back out on the guy. I am sure I will be happy enough with the 8's/

To continue, I used to have 2-10 inch Alphasonik Q-Reference Series subs powered by a Visonik 350 watt (220rms) amp. But whenevere i would have to change a flat, I had to take the speakers/box out. I dont want to have to do that again. Even with only 8's, I consider this one hell of an upgrade

1>Better Subs!

2>Custom Ported box instead of premade sealed box

3>Better Amp!

4>Almost TWICE the power.

So this should put my old system to shame

The guy thats selling me the subs/box put a lot of work into it, and really knows his stuff. He has a DD9515 in a box he made for it, and has recently hit 149.8, he's trying to get it to hit 150db. Anyway guys, as nice as it would be to have 10's, I'm gonna stick with the 8's because of the room issue and because I'm not gonna back out on the guy.

I have some RE 8's ...they sound decent for 8's....but one DD 8 will lay th' hammer down on the pair of RE 8's...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
You're dreaming. Apparently you don't understand how speakers work at all. One DD 8 can't outdisplace one RE 8, let alone two. You best try understanding speakers a bit better before making such stupid claims. About the only thing the DD might best them at is bass farting in a high tuned ported box. Its performance would be quite inferior in all other respects. Its not my opinion, its the undeniable logical reality of physics.

hey logan! didnt know u were a member here, just got tired of posting on Ecoustics all the time, and wanted more opinions.****, cant wait to get my 8's
With regard to your original post, they should get louder than the crappy sony sub on the crappy sony amp.

The RE8s are actually very nice little 8s, I'm sure you'll like them. Ignore the rabid DD fanbois, the only thing a DD 8 is better at than the RE is making farting noises.
