Just to clear things up a bit

So if someone angers you do you act on instinct and attack them like an animal?
No, I cede my right to kill another human being in exchange for my protection.

Or say you've tried cocaine and liked the way it made you feel. Does that mean you should do it?
Yes, go ahead. You're not harming anyone. Frequent use is not the wisest choice for personal health reasons, but that doesn't mean it should be illegal.

Laws are put in place for reasons beyond some of our understanding.

These laws happen to have been put into place by the very being that designed and created the universe. Some things we just won't understand. That doesn't mean we should defy them.

Look at a 3 year old child. He doesn't know why we set rules. He just knows he needs to obey them.

How much more advanced is God over us than we are over our children?
Many of the laws you hold most sacred existed before Christianity in different societies.

The unfortunate thing is that you teach a child rules they don't need to follow.

Where did you get that information?
From the religious who study the original texts. Do you not follow your own religion very closely?

And even so, they had absolutely no reason to lie. If that is what you are getting at.
a) That is an extremely dubious assumption

b) A work of fiction can suggest any number of things to those who read it, thus making it usable for any number of purposes

If no one cares to read this thread, then you're included. It insinuates that those who would read this thread lack common sense. You're reading this thread, therefore you lack common sense. You lack common sense, yet you're attempting to explain where religion relates to common sense. I was just following your line of logic.

No where in that text you quoted did I say that anyone who read this read lacked common sense. I said those who posted religious crap did. Learn to read more than the bible and you might get smarter. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

1. I didn't think you were this shallow minded. There are far more than just health reasons not to do it.

2. That is you opinion. You have no clue how I raise my child.

3. Actually I went to Christian school for 7 years. I must've missed that one.

4. The Bible is not some fiction novel. It was written by men who were entirely serious when they wrote it.

I would expect such a childish reactive response from a teenager. You assume that I'm religious? I don't read the Bible as often as I should. Learn some manners and you might get some well earned respect when you grow up.

Edit: Grinder, I apologize for making an assumption. I was merely forming a reasonable conclusion based on a perception I gathered from what you're post insuated to me. I didn't intend to offend. I stand by the first part of this post however.

List the reasons then.

2. That is you opinion. You have no clue how I raise my child.
Sorry, I didn't mean you specifically. Here's a very simple example of a lesson often taught to children that I absolutely detest: stop asking so many questions.

3. Actually I went to Christian school for 7 years. I must've missed that one.
You can look it up if you need to. For example, Matthew, Mark, and Luke's Gospels were all written between 60-110 AD, while Jesus died between 26 and 36 AD.

4. The Bible is not some fiction novel. It was written by men who were entirely serious when they wrote it.
How do you know this?

Forgive me, but I believe you have not answered my question.
Because I don't believe anyone that has been born again would make a statement like that.

I have born again friends that are on drugs and living completely immoral lives that will still tell you to this day that they will never be whole or at peace again without living outside the realm of sin.

You see once you give your life to Christ that's it. You will never find true fullness living outside his will.

Therefore you haven't experienced both to make that call.

I am not born again. I was Christian and am not anymore, thus I have a method to compare the two.

Sorry, but I think that someone who doesn't even know when their holy book was written lacks a certain amount of credibility on this topic.

I don't understand why the disciples waited until 20-30 years after his death to write anything down.
Christianity wasn't a religion until his disciples (paul was the first to) decided it should be. He essentially started preaching the word and teachings of Jesus and wrote books of it. The other disciples followed, along with a few other accounts. It wasn't until like 300-400 ad that these scriptures became known as the "bible" when Roman's emperor converted to Christianity and it gained power.

Fiction has little to nothing to do with being 'entirely serious' about the subject.

Also should be noted that the particular gospels that went into the official "bible" were chosen at the discretion of what priests were in power at the time, not by the disciples, not by Jesus, not by God.

There's no such thing as being born a Christian. Nobody is born believing in God, or in Jesus/etc.

As a child you may grow up being told things and believing things because you are told them, but until you question these beliefs and realize you are independent and need not believe just because you are told to, you are not truly a believer. At this point, you are 'born again' as you guys like to call it. All real Christians are "born again" (not to say that all "born again Christians" are real Christians, of course).

Saint Paul actually initially hunted and sought to arrest/kill the original believers in what would be called "Christianity", until he, as is accounted, had a revelation, and flipped a 180 and really started spreading these teachings.

Mugen, I hope you don't take this as an attack on your position in any way. I have grown up being of the mindset that to live life in the way you describe would require a separation from all things that may entice one down the wrong path. That is a discipline that I'd venture very few can claim success, myself included.

You say these friends are born again yet they continue to engage in activities which keep them from fulfillment? It's easy to talk the talk, are you sure they ever truly walked the walk? It's easy to get caught up in doing what the rest of the crowd is doing, that includes activities at church. I've seen way too many young people treat church as more of a social event than a place of reverence and discipline. If one is truly born again, then you don't go to church to find God, you take Him with you in your heart.

Do you associate with them on any terms outside of trying to be supportive to find their way back? If you're as convicted as you're coming across, that should be your only functional association should it not?

I'm not offended. I don't really care. I may indeed sound childish, but that is just my point of view. I don't care about religion or even people's beliefs. I just find it annoying that people talk like it's the only way to live your life. Excuse my manners, I never could be socially acceptable these days. I'm going to end my posts in this thread as I've stated my point many times now.
