My brother gave me this old 4 channel amp he had laying around it's an Alpine mrv-f303 was missing some screws for the power, remote and ground but I found some that fit so I have it up and running and WOW what a difference going from my pioneer deh-5100ub to the mrv-f303 I knew it would be an improvement but wow its an amazing improvement. I've always had 4ch amps before in my cars but this was still a surprise. I do also have the crossovers off since the head unit has built in HP but i'll probably set them to around 100 at least just to be safe. I need to get some more power wire for my amps too so I can hide them a little.

Question: Should I turn the head unit all the way to max volume and then tune the gains or should I give it some leeway?

When I had my alpine head unit I just had it at max and made sure the gains were not too high but I wanted to get some of your opinions.

Anyone have any experience with tuning pioneer head units with 4 ch amps? A lot of people say don't use loudness at all so I was wondering about that the pioneer has a loudness setting for low, mid or high frequency ranges. There is also a feature called Advance sound retriever for compressed audio that I was wondering about.
