Just how bad is this? Look at the pics.

Dip a rag in kerosene, ducktape it too the battery for your patch.P ut it in the trunk, and make sure to leave matches, lighter ,anything flamable, back there with it. It will add 100 db's.
i heard that if u pour the acid from a yellow top on a yellow subs cone that it will add not 100..... but 500dbs... o the possibilities.... but ya man with a nice system like that i woulndt be takin any chances with a stupid batt.... get a shitty one from somwhere for now till u can afford a new one....

Just go buy one, then bring the ****ed up one back and tell them it was just sittin gin the garage over night and look what happened. Then threaten to sue because it couldhave leaked toxic fumes into your garage (?), which were exposed to you and your pets. Now your cat walks with a twitch, but you will let it all go if they replace it.

No offense my brother, but you guys readily jump all over someone for scamming users here . What your suggesting is fraud and just as bad .

Chalk it up as a learning experience and fork out the dough for a new one. AND STRAP IT DOWN BEFORE YOU START THE MOTOR //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I see some have a hard time taking a joke.

before you blow up the car, replace that battery, not only is that cell unusable, but your alt is now trying to push a 12-14.4 volt charge into 5 cells instead of 6....ever seen a battery over volted? not a pretty sight.

aside from that, maybe i'm uneducated on this issue, but explain how a DRY CELL battery leaks?

No sir , I see the humor in yours and others post. But judging by some of the original posters comments . He might just do something like that. Come on The guy wants to fix a hole in a battery //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Pull that shit out of your car immediately. If that cell fails while you're cruising along, that batt is gonna blow the **** up. BOOM. Fire and shit. Bad things happen. TAKE IT OUT. REPLACE IT. You can't 'patch it' and expect it to work, once you've ripped a cell open, that cell is generally ****ed.

Well I can set your guys fears to rest. To all of you saying it would blow up, it didn't. I drove to pep boys, got there, it was idling at 14.98 and sitting at 12.96. Took it out, took it in, showed em my reciept with warranty info on it and got a brand new one in less then 5 minutes. And I was never planning on trying to actually patch it to all of you think I'm just that retarted lol. Thanks for all the helpful info last night though guys!

well good 4 u cuz i had a battery that i found out had a microscopic crack in it and she went boom, loud as hell too, good thing it was my bike and not in my trunk:D

stupid fucks dont realize its a dry cell battery. try some gelcoat, its not like its never seen heat. those things can take a shot from a gun, so im guessing a fan blade isn't the worst thing that can ever happen

wow... never seen that before. Glad you got a new one... with a crack/hole in the case your batt looses its ability to recombine gasses for charging. Eventually it would have been completely discharged and left you stranded. You might actually have been able to seal it up and got a year out of it maybe... as long as you didnt get into the glass matting, or the actual cell itself. If you had left the hole open and cycled the batt through a hard charge/discharge chances are some of the electolite would escape from the matting and make a mess in your engine bay. Hopefully you strapped this one down //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I won't comment on what some people are saying, but here are some facts:

Car batteries and UPS/Fed Ex usually don't mix. A sealed gel type of battery (Optima, Orbital, Hawker, Stinger, etc.) can be shipped by UPS/Fed Ex. Who gives a crap, right? Well, that is what I'm getting it. Because instead of having lead plates sitting in acid, the cells are made up of a plate and a sponge-like material rolled together. So even if a UPS guy pulls an Ace Ventura on this thing acid won't leak all over the place.

So, the original poster says "My battery is sitting at 12.98 volts, its OK, right?" Well, leave a wet sponge sitting in a hot engine comparment, that acid is going to evaporate. No acid, the cell goes dry.

Batteries that are overcharged produce hydrogen (think Hindenburg). The hydrocloric acid starts boiling, and Hydrogen comes out. Hydrogen is one of the lightest gases out that, but is very flamable. A normal battery won't produce Hydrogen. So it isn't going to blow up if you try to fix it.

I would suggest maybe a get a big patch, and keep the glue away from the cell as much as you can and try to seal it up. That is probably as good as you are going to get.

Measure twice, cut once. The world is littered with little stories like yours (buddy blew up an amp because he used black for power and ground because that was all we had and we didn't want to make a run to the store). I've done the same thing (it was the pully not the fan, but it was a lead acid battery).

Juan
